Foods You Have to Eat This Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NMSU chapter.

This is the time of year to enjoy many things like being with family and having a break from school. Another glorious thing to enjoy this season is the food. If you are like most people, you have probably been looking forward to having Thanksgiving food for a while now. Thankfully, Thanksgiving is in just a few days and we all can finally stuff our faces. I am here to tell you everything you will regret not eating this Thanksgiving.

1. Turkey

This main dish usually takes at least a few hours to prepare but it is worth it. Turkey is not only delicious, but it is also good for you. Like all meat, turkey is a great source of protein. Something to remember when you are buying turkey is to try and get one organic because it will usually have more nutrients than a regular non-organic turkey. Also, don’t forget to look up recipes on how to make the best turkey. Since it is the main dish, it is important to get it right.

2. Corn Bread and Dinner Rolls

Even though this might not be on your main plate, it is definitely something you have to grab. When the bread bowl is being passed around the table, I always anxiously wait for it to get to me. Bread rolls are perfect to have at all times including before, during, and even after the main meal.

3. Vegetables

It might be hard, but always remember what your momma told you when you were younger. Don’t forget your veggies! Besides steamed carrots and green bean casserole, Brussels sprouts are a great vegetable to have during Thanksgiving dinner. There are a lot of great ways to prepare them.

4. Ham

Your family may only be making turkey, but ham is a meat that does not have to be forgotten. Even if you might not have it for Thanksgiving, there will most likely be some chance to have it during Christmas dinner.

5. Pumpkin Pie

No matter how much of the main course you eat, you absolutely have to save room for dessert! Pumpkin pie is definitely a must have. Unlike apple pie, you cannot always easily find pumpkin pie at other times of the year. Take advantage of it while you still can!

Thanksgiving is a great holiday for many reasons, but the food is definitely at the top of the list. From the delectable meat, whether it be turkey or ham, to the sweet pumpkin or pecan pie at the end of it all, this special dinner with family and friends is something special to enjoy to the fullest.  Always remember to be thankful at all times of the year. Happy Thanksgiving!
