2012 Springfest Lineup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

It’s finally here! All the anticipation has lead up to this. Now all we have to do is survive the online waiting room ….. The 2012 Springfest Lineup consists of Jack’s Mannequin, Passion Pit, and Nelly.

Jack’s Mannequin is an American rock band from Orange County California. Andrew McHahon created the group, which is composed of Bobby Anderson (guitar), Mikey “The Kid” Wanger (bassist) and Jay McMillan (drums). The group has released albums such as Everything in Transit in 2005, and The Glass Passenger in 2008. Some of the more popular songs from Jack’s Mannequin include Dark Blue, La La Lie, The Mixed Tape, and Buried.

Passion Pit is an American Electropop band from our neighbor across the bridge;Cambridge, Massachusetts. The band members include Michael Angelakos as lead vocalist and keyboard player, Ian Hultquist on keyboard and guitar, Ayad Al Adhamy as synthesizer, Jeff Apruzzese as Bass and synth bass, and Nate Donmoyer on drums. All of the band members except for Angelakos attended college down the street from us at the Berklee School of Music. Their most recent album is Manners in 2010 and the most popular songs from that album include Sleepyhead, Little Secrets, The Reeling and Moth’s Wings.

Nelly
is a Grammy Award winning American Hip-Hop artist. Some of his most famous songs include, Hot in Here and Dilemma. His most selling album is Country Grammar, which debuted in 2000. Nelly has also been successful as an entrepreneur and actor.

Many students at Northeastern University have mixed feelings towards this year’s lineup. Many are ecstatic, and others well … not so much.

One student had this to say, “It could be better. I’m not disappointed because it could have been a lot worse, but I’m not over the top excited for the show either”.

Another student that was questioned was disappointed about the lineup; she described the lineup as “ random, over-played, and boring”.

I can see why she has this opinion because I myself am more excited for the event in general than the actual performers. Considering this is my first year at Northeastern I am more excited for the event in general than the actual performers. That being said I do believe that the University made an effort to provide a good mix of artists and music tastes. Hopefully there is something that everyone will enjoy even if they would have preferred other artists.

No matter who the performers are, everyone is sure to have a good time at Springfest. Make the most of it no matter if you are over-the-top-excited for the lineup, or if you are less-than-pleased. Gather up your friends or go with your organization and celebrate the end of semester and the beginning of summer!
