Venture out for some nighttime comedy theater. You don’t have to be a theater-loving musical fanatic to enjoy a weekend hearing, “sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.”
There are numerous great shows to see all around Boston. And the fact that most of us are broke college students is not a problem. They aren’t all expensive!
1. Improv asylum
For those of you who like to switch things up, this comedy show is never the same. Everything is made up on the spot, and can be compared to a cross between Saturday Night Live and Who’s Line is it Anyway. It is located in the North End, just off the Haymarket T-Stop on the Green Line. Tickets are normally $20. However, you can get them for only $10, if you buy them the day of the show through bostix.com, or at the ticket center outside of the Abercrombie & Fitch at Faneuil Hall.
2. Boston University Theater
For those of you who don’t want to venture far from campus, this one is right on Huntington Ave. Everyone has probably walked past it multiple times, but how about walking inside? Sons of the Prophet is now showing until May 1. This show is about two gay brothers who lose their father, and the family’s tremendous sorrow is transformed into hilarious comedy. Tickets are $25 for adults under the age of 35(that includes you!) and promotional codes for online ticket purchases can be found on retailmenot.com.
3. Mottley’s Comedy Club
For those of you who are 21 years old and above, the comedy at this club is something different. It’s fresh and one of a kind. They call themselves “a comedy revolution.” Shows and guests vary by weekend, sometimes featuring one person, other times many. This club is located off the State Street Stop on the Orange Line. Ticket prices range in price, often between $12 and $20.
4. Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault
For those of you who like smaller, more intimate venues, this 18+ club has stand-up comedy shows seven nights a week, featuring different comedians each night. This one is located directly across from the Boston Commons and is diagonal to the Boylston T-Stop on the Green Line. Tickets cost $20
