Sleepy Hollow
With the success of shows like Grimm and Once Upon A Time, it was only a matter of time before another magic/supernatural show hit the small screen. Instead of giving us what we really want (A Disney Princess/Real Housewives crossover), Fox has settled for Sleepy Hollow, based on that book and Disney animated movie that no one really ever cared about. The show follows Ichabod Crane, a war general of George Washington, as he mysteriously wakes up in 2013 and is forced to work with local police to capture the Headless Horseman, his ghostly adversary. With all that’s going on in TV this fall, maybe it’ll be best to just skip this show and watch the film starring Johnny Depp and the godawful Christina Ricci instead.
Mondays at 9 pm on FOX
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Andy Samberg stars as a juvenile detective who clashes with the new police captain in this FOX comedy. It has everything you’d expect a TV show with Andy Samberg to have: men in speedos, awkward humor and random SNL cameos. Bonus points for casting Terry Crews, most known for his brilliant acting in the Old Spice commercials, as one of Sambergs’ co-workers.      Â
Tuesdays at 8:30 pm on FOX
Mom
Alison Janney (Juno/The Help) Â and Anna Faris (Scary Movies/The House Bunny) star as a mother-daughter pair, trying to reconnect as they both struggle with drug and alcohol addictions. And if you were wondering, this is a comedy. The show will resonate with people who often find themselves making the wrong decisions despite the best of intentions and if anything the show provides us with an opportunity to watch the House Bunny on TV once a week.
Mondays at 9:30 pm on CBS
Marvel’s Agents of Shield
This show brings together all of the characters you didn’t care about from The Avengers and shows us the inner workings of SHIELD, a superhero organization. Despite the fact that the show won’t be starring any of the Avengers’ stars who make up your “Hot Men” board on Pinterest, the show has the potential to be good as it has a big special effects budget and was created by Joss Wheedon, the man behind The Avengers and Buffy The Vampire Slayers. And the lead actor Clark Gregg is kind of attractive – in a dad way.
Tuesdays at 8 pm on ABC
Back in the Game
Maggie Lawson, who should have been nominated for an Oscar for her work as Alex/Janine in the tv movie, Life Size, stars as Terry, a divorced mother who decides to coach a little league team made up of all the kids who suck at baseball. The show is basically a hybrid of Bad News Bears/The Benchwarmers, but with James Caan (Elf/Misery) as Terry’s father, the show just might be a homerun (I apologize for the pun).
