Mermaids Don’t Have Thigh Gaps (And Neither Do These Celebrities)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

Let me start by saying: of course there are women who naturally have a thigh gap (a gap between a person’s thighs). However, the recent phenomenon of women trying to unnaturally create a thigh gap is unhealthy and needs to stop. Anybody active on Tumblr, Instagram or Pinterest knows that many women have become obsessed with achieving a thigh gap in recent years. Influenced by the slender bodies of models like Cara Delevingne and Iza Goulart, women post inspirational photos, thigh-targeted workouts and suggested diets to help others in making sure their thighs never touch again. Not only is having a thigh gap entirely unrealistic for most women, this sweeping obsession is straight up unhealthy for women’s body images. So, in response to the numerous thigh gap inspiration blogs, I have compiled an anti-thigh gap list of celebrities who look great without them. My final plea to women: please stop obsessing over the fact that your thighs touch, embrace and celebrate your womanly curves and always remember that mermaids don’t have thigh gaps either!
