Last Saturday, I decided to venture out into the city with a group of friends and explore Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood. My favorite part was all the visual aspects of the architecture, I loved the murals around the streets and the iconic Chinese arch.
Our first stop was to Taiwan Café, a hole-in-the-wall cozy restaurant. I chose the pork soup dumplings with a side of white rice. My friends and I also split the scrumptious scallion pancakes as an appetizer. They were perfectly thick and not too greasy, unlike many other scallion pancakes I’ve tried before. It was surprisingly affordable for such an incredible meal. I especially loved the homey and cozy feel of the restaurant, adorned with beautiful Chinese decorations. It was a perfect meal for a very cold day with very quick and friendly service. Taiwan Café is a perfect spot to bring your friends or family for a lovely dining experience.
After Taiwan Café we decided to get bubble tea for dessert, which was not hard to find in Chinatown. Our choice was Royal Tea. It had all kinds of tea including bubble tea with slices of fruit in it. My pick was the Honey Green Tea with boba.
Finally, we stopped into a shop full of beauty products, candies and snacks, appliances, and more. I decided to pick up a bag of Chinese strawberry candies.
What I loved most about my trip to Chinatown was the delicious food and the culture there. It felt like an escape from the normal bustling streets of Boston and an opportunity to enjoy another culture right here in this diverse city. Boston’s diversity is one of its assets, and there are so many different cultural neighborhoods to check out such as Italian food in the North End or Chinatown of course.
For Northeastern students interested in making a trip to Chinatown, simply take the Green Line from the Northeastern stop to Boylston or the Orange Line to the Chinatown stop. It is the perfect place for a delicious meal and a weekend adventure with friends or family.
