Traveling abroad, even studying, is a privilege that many collegiettes are experiencing or planning on experiencing while in college. I was lucky enough to find a program that applied to my minor in Sustainable Business practices and would allow me to leave the U.S. and learn the ways of another country.
So this summer I spent five weeks traveling and learning in the happiest place on Earth: Costa Rica! First, I want to preface with the fact that I took two years worth of Spanish in middle school, so fast forward six years, my Spanish is very rusty. I traveled with seven other individuals whom all spoke better than me, but it was never an issue while there. The entire culture was very friendly and they LOVE to dance! One of our instructors brought us to a local bar/dance restaurant and she and her children would teach us some of the traditional moves. Needless to say, they were a lot better than us, but we had a great time.
Over the course of the trip I went horseback riding, whitewater rafting, ziplining, farm traveling, snorkeling, sloth observing and we even watched endangered baby sea turtles crawl from their nest into the ocean! My study abroad experience may be more adventurous and physically rigorous than your typical sightseeing one, but I absolutely loved it. You never know what you are going to get while studying abroad, so pick a place and go!
