Last Friday, March 23, students walked into their Friday classes exhausted, but not because of Thirsty Thursday. They hadn’t gotten back to their beds until at least four in the morning after attending a midnight showing of the movie that everyone seemed to be waiting for.
That’s right. The Hunger Games has arrived in theaters at last! The games have commenced in theaters nationwide.
“I went to the midnight premiere at the Fenway theater with people form my dorm and a couple others,” said Lindsay Petracek, a freshman studying behavioral neuroscience.
Petracek was one of the hundreds of Northeastern students evacuated from her dormitory during the prolonged Boston Blackout last week. When the power at the snack bar went out at the theater for 15 minutes, Petracek’s first thought was the fear of another blackout.
“Besides that, I thought the movie was great, but I definitely could have waited to see it later. I only went to the midnight premiere because I got the tickets for $5,” admitted Petracek.
On the other hand, Lizze Ferrari, a first year English and Cinema Studies major, raved about the movie.
“I definitely want to see it again,” said Ferrari.
Ferrari’s midnight showing experience involved many fans, questionably paid actors, and a lot of press.
“There were a few people dressed up as Effie and Seneca, but I think that they were paid because they seemed to be there only so that other people could take pictures with them,” speculated Ferrari who then proceeded to mention all the fans in “The Hunger Games” shirts.
Every day, it sounds like another massive crowd heads to the theaters to watch the movie every person is talking about. It did rake in a $155 million during opening weekend, ranking it the third highest grossing weekend ever.
If you’re in one of those crowds headed to the theater…
May the odds be ever in your favor.
