According to Delish, the most popular Thanksgiving pies in 2016 were pumpkin, pecan, apple, sweet potato, and chocolate. As a self-proclaimed pie enthusiast, I took it upon myself to rate these different pies.

Pecan

I don’t think a single Thanksgiving has gone by without me stuffing my face with at least one slice of pecan pie. The crunchy pecans and the warm sugar filling combine to make a pie that truly encapsulates happiness and comfort. To those who say that this pie is too sweet, I would suggest enjoying it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s life-changing.

Apple

Apple pie might not be the most traditional Thanksgiving pie, but it’s hard to argue that it’s one of the most delicious pies to ever be created. It is important to note that apple pies with the lattice pie crust are inherently superior to those without it. The warm apple cinnamon filling is so perfectly fall that this pie, in my opinion, is the perfect way to end the autumn season.

Pumpkin

I know that pumpkin pie is the most popular Thanksgiving pie – after all, pumpkins symbolically represent the holiday – but it isn’t the best pie by any means. I’ve never been able to finish a full slice of pumpkin pie because the filling is just too pumpkiny. This is, at best, a mediocre pie and deserves its spot as #3.

Chocolate

I mean … can you ever really go wrong with a good old fashioned chocolate pie? This pie is not too sweet and sits just right. The reason it’s so low on the list is purely because I just don’t know if chocolate pie screams Thanksgiving. Nevertheless, it’s a solid pie which I would rate higher on pretty much any other holiday.

Unrated: Sweet Potato I’m going to be completely transparent – I’ve only had this pie once during Thanksgiving. I’m from Massachusetts, and sweet potato pie isn’t usually a delicacy that’s served often. I’m not going to rate sweet potato pie because I want to give it a second chance to redeem itself.
