Some of your friends may be jetting off to Mexico, Florida beaches, or Puerto Rico. You, on the other hand, are packing your bags for home. Before feeling sorry for yourself, first congratulate yourself on the hundreds of dollars you saved. Then, think about the potential opportunities you have for a good time at home. Midterms are finally over and you can spend time in a familiar place destressing. It may not be paradise, but you will be trading in jet lags for home cooked meals and a comfy bed.

The first thing you should do at home is RELAX. You probably just spent the last few weeks holed up in the library with flashcards and PowerPoint handouts to cram for midterms. Spend the first day sleeping in, binging on shows you are behind on, or curling up with a good book that you have wanted to read for a while. Take one day to do absolutely nothing and rejuvenate.

Sometimes, you don’t have the same break as friends at home. However, that doesn’t mean your social life has to go down the drain for a whole week.  Some of your friends may go to state schools that are easy to visit. Pick up one on a Friday and road trip to visit any mutual friends nearby. Another option is visiting family you haven’t seen in a while. Your grandma would really appreciate a visit. Your siblings miss you and will want to bond. Take this week to spend some quality time with the people you care about and hardly get to see.

Also, considering all the money you saved not going on a classic spring break vacation, you can take some of that money and go on a shopping spree. Summer will be here before you know it and stores will begin to switch sweaters for shorts, sundresses, and sandals. Or you can invest the money in redecorating your childhood room into something more mature. Google or Pinterest DIY projects, buy the needed supplies, and spend a day creating whatever you want. Last, you can use some of the saved money to pamper yourself. Get your nails done or finally get that haircut you have been blowing off. You can also have a spa day at home. Take a nice relaxing bath (I recommend using a Lush bath bomb or bath melt) and do your own nails.

However, you can also take this time to be alone and reflect. You can go to the beach or some other familiar town spot and just enjoy the peacefulness. There are barely any days that you get to not worry about anything or need not answer the phone. Take advantage of these days.

Whatever you decide to do, don’t spend spring break at home sulking. There are so many options available to have a great time.
