Now that we know Steve Aoki and Cold War Kids will be headlining our beloved Dillo Day, we thought our readers would like to know a little more about the two artists. Are they hot? Not? Will they sing their way into our souls? Check out a few fun facts below:
Steve Aoki
With shoulder-length hair and a thick mustache, Steve Aoki may not be your typical dark and dreamy musician, but his electro house beats and funky street style will be sure to keep you entertained. A Cali boy from Newport Harbor, Aoki grew up only 20 minutes from The Hills star Lauren Conrad. He’s also the son of the guy who founded Benihana, the brother of supermodel Devon Aoki and the founder of Dim Mak records. Aoki’s latest solo album, “Wonderland,” was released January 2012 and features guest vocalists and musicians LMFAO, Kid Cudi, Travis Barker, will.i.am, Rivers Cuomo, Lil Jon, Chiddy Bang and more. If his crowd-pumping dance tracks don’t get you going on Dillo Day, his cool factor alone will.
Cold War Kids
A group after any hipster’s heart, Cold War Kids are an indie rock band who “strive to make honest songs about human experience in orchards and hotel rooms, laundromats and churches, sea ports and school halls,” according to their Facebook page. Also Cali residents, the band formed in Long Beach during 2004 and has since produced three studio albums: “Robbers and Cowards,” “Loyalty to Loyalty,” and their 2011 release “Mine is Yours.” The four members are tattooed, scruffy, and maintain perfectly messy hair. Top that with soul-tinged vocals and blues-heavy instrumentals and you’ve got four seriously sexy musicians.
