Freshman Firsts with Kylie: Pledge Mom Week. AKA Best Week Ever.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

While I don’t consider myself to be an overly spoiled individual, that has all changed this week.   After my door and room were decorated on Sunday, the surprises have yet to cease.

There’s no hiding the fact that the amount of stalking reaches a pretty high level in order to pull off these schemes, but it’s all worth it when you are completely and utterly shocked and surprised.

Bouquets of flowers and cute boys escorting me to class?  I could get used to this.  I have way more sorority gifts and candy than I know what to do with but I’m definitely not complaining.

One of my ultimate favorites so far was a strip tease performed by freshman frat boys (names will remain anonymous!)  The gyrating hips of these guys rivaled Britney herself as they sang their hearts out to “Slave 4 U.”  The near-nudity and embarrassment these men faced all for the sake of our entertainment was touching.

Yesterday’s surprise manicure and makeup bag filled with goodies waiting for me at Asha Salonspa was a new level of pampering.  (For any of you who have yet to frequent Asha- they do an amazing job and the heated neck cushions are to die for.)

Let’s face it:  when someone takes the time to call your mom and find out everywhere you go and everyone you talk to, all for the sake of indulging you and welcoming you to the “family,” it takes caring to a whole new level.  And in the middle of a crazy amount of work and everything else going wrong, it’s definitely a morale boost.  I’m definitely looking forward to initiation even more than I was before and only hope I can do this good of a job next year.

She joined HC as a freshman as a contributing writer and has been campus correspondent since her sophomore year. When she isn't writing, online shopping, or reading fashion magazines, she loves watching The Mindy Project, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother and everything on Bravo.
Monica is a sophomore at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. She spent her early years growing up in a small town in Minnesota, but spent the last half of her life in Seoul, South Korea where she developed a city girl love for good food finds and fashion. Journalism has been a major part of her life, but she can also be found relaxing with a cup of coffee, watching movies, and spending time with loved ones. Though she has a tough exterior, Monica is actually a romantic who loves the power of words, the importance of strength in any endeavor, and who always wears her heart on her sleeve.
