How are you involved in Dance Marathon?
This year I am serving as NUDM’s Public Relations Co-Chair. My co-chair Arielle and I work with a tremendous group of 49 individuals to plan social media content, generate media coverage and celebrity support, create content for our blog and magazine (coming out this Friday!) as well as plan on-campus marketing efforts.
What is your favorite part of NUDM?
Year after year, my favorite part of NUDM is being able to get to know the families we are directly helping with the fundraising we provide and awareness we raise. This year, I’ve had the privilege to get to know Ella Joy — one of our heroes who has stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma — her younger brother, Asaph, and Anthony, another one of our heroes. Ella Joy, for example, undergoes chemotherapy every single morning. Her resilience inspires me to do more and want to give more.
What is your number one tip for raising money?
Canning! There is money to be made on the streets. This year, I’ve gone canning twice and have made $600 in doing so. It’s all about dancing your heart out with absolutely no shame. You’ll be surprised how much money strangers are willing to donate if you make them smile or laugh with an outrageous dance move.
If you had 3 songs to dance to for all 30 hours, what would they be?
Lose Control – Missy Elliott
F For You – Disclosure
Stronger – Kanye West
What else are you involved in on campus?
Right now I am just involved with NUDM!
