For everyone out there that isn’t sure, what exactly is Project Scare?
It’s our biggest philanthropy event of the year. We always partner with A Phi and turn our house into a haunted house for a week. It runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 PM to 2 AM, and it’s $5 at the door.
Who does it benefit, and why did SAE and Alpha Phi choose them this year?
Y.O.U. Evanston, which stands for Youth Umbrella Organization. They do a lot of after school programs and different services for kids, helping them succeed in and out of school. Our house philanthropy chair, Steven Tyler came to me with the idea. It’s nice to do something local; we’re going to have some of the kids over Thursday afternoon to check out the setup.
What made you want to become involved in Project Scare?
It’s a crazy fun event, and we get to scare our friends and everyone else that comes through.
What is your favorite part of the process?
Several things. Everyone on the committee is fun and super easy to work with. My A Phi co-chairs, Kacie McGoldrick and Augusta Blandford are great, Brett and Morgan Joffe were the chairs last year so they are a great resource, and Liza Kelly has gone above and beyond running the marketing this year. They make everything so much easier. Also seeing everyone have fun working it this week is going to be great. That’s part of the motivation – besides the charity aspect, you want to put on an event that the SAE guys and A Phi girls are going to enjoy being a part of. Also, the shirts are really comfy.
What are you most excited about for Project Scare this year?
I think the theme is great. We’re calling it Cirque du Scream, and it’s a twisted, creepy circus. I just let everyone on the committee run with their ideas and they came up with some great stuff. What else are you involved in on campus?
Mostly homework. I didn’t have time to play club rugby this fall, but I’m looking forward to playing again in the spring. That’s a fun group of guys.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I want to be the first male athlete to break the gender barrier in the WNBA. (#motivated)

Is there anything in particular we should watch out for walking through the haunted house?
I’m not going to give anything away, but everyone should come and bring friends. I’ve never experienced it from an outside perspective where I don’t know what’s coming, but I’m told it’s pretty scary. At least one person pees their pants every year, so we’re hoping to keep the tradition alive.
