This time of year we all stand in front of our closets wondering what we need to bring to school with us. Obviously we need our leggings, boots, sweatshirt uniform for class. But how about those
beloved themed parties? Never fear. Here’s a guide to putting together cute outfits out of clothing you already have in your closet!
Let’s start with the 10 staples. These items are mostly articles of clothing that you should own anyways, but all of them are fairly inexpensive and great for a variety of themes- so they’re definitely worth investing in!
The staples are a camo shirt, neon clothing (leggings are perfect!), fake glasses, a white t-shirt, cowboy boots, a red skirt or dress, a black bandage skirt, yoga pants, a white button down and knee socks!
If you’re feeling ambitions, these are some nice bonus items to add to your wardrobe: a sports jersey, suspenders, animal ears and some sort of apparel with the American flag on it!
Now for our themes:
For anything patriotic, country, hunter or army-themed, try wearing a camo/American flag shirt, a jean skirt or shorts, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat or red bandana.
For a highlighter, neon or blacklight party, wear lots of neon accessories or leggings, a white shirt, and a black bandage skirt. Pair some colorful Keds or Converse with it to complete the look!
If the theme is nerdy, middle school, 90’s or hipster, wear any combination of the following for a nerd-chic look: a white button down, glasses, suspenders, a black skirt, knee socks and Converse. Put your hair in pigtails for a final touch!
Red clothes work for a surprising number of costumes: Christmas/Valentine’s Day, Seven Deadly Sins (lust), and Angels and Devils just to name a few. For these themes, wear a red dress or skirt with a black or white shirt and a pair of sexy black pumps.
For a comfy-yet-cute costume for a pajama party, Sloth for 7 Deadly Sins, or even a “Workout Bros and Yoga Hoes” party, opt for some form-fitting yoga pants or sweats and a cute tank top. There’s a lot of flattering workout clothing for women these days–take advantage of the opportunity to look hot yet comfortable!
Last but not least, if the party theme is Anything But Clothes and you actually can’t wear anything in your closet because everything is, well, clothing, you could always make something creative with a trashbag, a bed sheet toga, a towel, newspaper, caution tape, duct tape, or if you’re feeling especially creative, a Twister mat!
While I’m at it, I found a great video guide to making a toga out of your spare sheet!
