So tell me what you’re involved with on campus.

I am a reporter for the Northwestern News Network. I occasionally get to be the weather woman, which I particularly enjoy. It’s also a good experience to report live from the newsroom. I’m also the head of the Events committee for the Society of professional Journalists. There are many events we plan throughout the year to get members involved, one of the most popular events being the networking night, where journalists from all different fields come together and share their experiences.

How long have you known you wanted to go into broadcast? What do you love about it?

I’ve known I wanted to go into broadcast ever since Bill Clinton moved into my town. It was really exciting to have all the news trucks around and getting the chance to talk to reporters about their jobs was really inspiring. My favorite part about broadcast journalism is having a reason to talk to strangers about topics they are passionate about. I love meeting new people and with a career like this one, you constantly have the chance to do that.

How would you describe yourself to someone who knows nothing about you?

I’m very friendly and love meeting new people. I’m not afraid to talk to strangers. I love trying new activities. I also hate sitting around doing nothing. I always have to be doing something productive, whether it’s going to the gym or napping, both of which I really enjoy. I love spending time with my friends and especially love just random facts of knowledge.

In a perfect world, where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Well, I have to keep reminding myself that I’m 19 years old because I feel like I’m 14 or 15 at heart so I wish I would be 20 in 5 years. But, in reality, I guess I would like to have a successful career reporting entertainment news in a warm part of the country where I can go to the beach and go swimming on a regular basis. (Laughs) That is the most true answer.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

AH JUSTIN BIEBER. I saw the movie three times and I honestly can’t get enough of his music. I listen to him morning, noon, and night. He is the only person that always puts a smile on my face.

Monica is a sophomore at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. She spent her early years growing up in a small town in Minnesota, but spent the last half of her life in Seoul, South Korea where she developed a city girl love for good food finds and fashion. Journalism has been a major part of her life, but she can also be found relaxing with a cup of coffee, watching movies, and spending time with loved ones. Though she has a tough exterior, Monica is actually a romantic who loves the power of words, the importance of strength in any endeavor, and who always wears her heart on her sleeve.
