As the weather gets colder by the day, many of you fashion-forward girls probably started embracing the latest and hottest winter fashion trends- why not do the same for your makeup? If you find yourself stuck in a makeup rut and wearing the same eyeliner and mascara every day, here are some simple and easy tips for giving your face a fall makeover.
1.     Go bold- go berry!

Matte, red lips will always be a classic look, but if you’re used to slapping on pink lip gloss every day, fire engine red lips may be too much for you. No need to worry, though, because the modern twist to the red lip is more wearable and just as fierce: the berry lip. Think Blair Waldorf and the berry stained lips she sports that always make her look polished and put together. If you’re brave enough, swipe on a wine colored lipstick straight from the tube. If you’re still new to the bold lips and you want a subtle version of the trend, dabble your finger on the lipstick and gently tap it on your lips, starting from the center and working your way out. This will give you a natural berry stain. If you’re a lip gloss girl, swipe on some sheer berry lip gloss on your bottom lip and smack your lips together for the perfect pout.
An extra tip: gently rub some ice on your lips after you’ve applied your dark lipstick. This will prevent your lip color from rubbing off on your glass of water- or whomever you kiss.
2.     Rock messily smudged kohl-rimmed eyes

You don’t have to be a pro at applying eyeliner for this trend, because messily smudging your eyeliner all around your eyes can take your makeup transform from day to night within a matter of seconds. Use a creamy black or brown eyeliner to messily line your upper and lower lashline a little thicker than you would normally go for, while filling in your waterline as well for extra drama. Dab a q-tip on some dark eyeshadow in the color of your choice and smudge your liner to soften the harsh edges. Apply multiple coats of mascara and voilà ! Smokey eyes made easy.
3.     Add a pop of color

We always associate bright colors with the warmer months, but just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you always have to wear black or brown on your eyes. An easy and subtle way to add a splash of color to your everyday makeup look is to simply line your lower lashline with an eyeliner in your favorite vibrant color. The routine is simple: start off with your regular, everyday eye makeup, whether it’s a brown smokey eye, simple eyeliner and mascara or even no eye makeup at all, and line your lower lashline with an eyeliner in emerald green or our favorite Northwestern purple. The unexpected twist will bring the focus to your eyes.

4.     Try a make-under

It’s true that when fall and winter season comes along, the makeup tends to get heavier. Experimenting with vampy lips and smokey eyes is always fun, but leave at least one day out of the week to give yourself a make-under, instead of a make-over. Apply some light coverage tinted moisturizer with a dewy finish and dab some luminous cream highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones and the inner corners of your eyes for an overall fresh canvas. Apply a single coat of mascara, swipe on your favorite baby pink lipgloss and you’re ready to head out the door. Let your natural beauty shine through!

5.     Give your eyeliner wings

If you’re still stuck in a rut, the winged eyeliner works every time. Sporting crisp, bold liquid liner is one of the quickest ways to instantly vamp up your makeup routine. Look for a liquid liner with a felt tip rather than a brush applicator because felt tips give you more control. A fool-proof way to draw a winged eye is to extend the natural curve of your lower lash line to the desired length (shorter for a natural look and longer for a more dramatic look,) connect that line to the center of your pupil, and fill in the “triangle” you just made. It takes a bit of practice at first but once you get the technique mastered, you’ll love this look for both day and night.
