Finally Summer is upon us! To some of you this may mean some much needed R&R, but to me it means that I finally have time to catch up on all the shows I’ve missed this year. The school year has put quite the damper on my TV watching schedule. I’ve missed out on some great, old and new, TV shows. If you happen to have some spare time this summer where you just want to cuddle up in your bed and watch an episode of something, here are my highly regarded recommendations, even though I have essentially no authority over TV. Disclaimer: no promises if you sit down to watch one episode and it turns into watching an entire season, I guess thats the power of good television. So, ready your Netflix!
The Mindy Project (FOX)
I cannot speak highly enough of this show. If you liked Kelly Kapoor on The Office, you will love Mindy on The Mindy Project. Mindy is a fabulous doctor living in New York City, who says all the things you want to say, but you don’t becuase you have a filter. If Mindy doesn’t draw you in with all her quirks and bright outfits that hurt your eyes (yet you still like them), you’ll most likely fall in love with the other cast of characters. If the cast was the seven dwarves, Danny would be grumpy, yet we still love him. Morgan, would most definitely be doppy. He is the guy that you laugh at and not with, but he is still oh-so-loveable. Overall a great show, with an hilarious female lead, that is guaranteed to make you LOL. The show just finished its 3rd season, which gives you just enough time to catch up before the next season starts!
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
This is a brand new show on Netflix, that I have recently fallen in love with. Ellie Kemper, also an alum of The Office (what can I say I love The Office), plays Kimmy Schmidt a naive, yet determined, women who has just been freed from her captivity in a doomsday cult. Having spent most of her life in captivity, she vows to make the most of life as she heads to New York City. Essentially the show follows Kimmy figuring out how to live in 2015 with the help of some unlikely friends. Kimmy’s obliviousness is cute and funny at the same time. Even if you don’t fall in love with the show within the first episode, I am sure you will love the open credits. So, check it out for yourself!
Parks and Recreation (NBC)
I know, I know, this show isn’t a new one and we all know it’s a great one, but I felt obligated to include a classic for those unfortunate souls who have yet had the pleasure of watching this masterpiece. Basically Parks and Rec has all you could want in a show: Amy Poehler and Chris Pratt. Amy Poehler could make me laugh at anything. I love her and I love Leslie Knope. Chris Pratt, on the other hand, is one of God’s gifts to the world. He is gorgeous, even as bumbling, lost Andy Dwyer. Don’t even get me started on Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman). I basically live my life to the rules of Ron Swanson. If you have yet to watch it, this summer is your chance since the final season just aired.
Friday Night Lights (NBC)
Although, FNL has been off the air for quite a while now, there is not enough I can say to tell you how much I love this show. If you want a show that will pump you up for football season in the fall, this show will achieve that. The show itself is about high school football in Texas (even though none of the characters look like they can pull off high school). So it goes without saying that the show is intense, and in a good way. When you watch this show, you’re going to fall in love with football and probably one of the hunky men on the show who play it. I personally feel as if my life cannot go on if I cannot find myself a Riggins, but unfortunately he seems to be one of a kind. This is definitely a show you’ll get addicted to and stay up until 3 a.m. binge watching. You’re welcome.
House of Cards (Netflix)
Ok, this is the show I’ll be watching. I have heard amazing things about this show and from what I gather it is definitely one to watch. Just from reading short descriptions, the show is about a Congressman trying to fight his way to the top, with the help of his wife. This show is more of a political drama and less comedy, but I am definitely willing to give it a try and recommend you do the same!
*UPDATE* The Mindy Project was just dropped by Fox, so show it some support and watch it so another channel picks it up!
