The 6 Best Things About A Snow Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

With the never-ending snow that comes with the glory of going to school in the Midwest, snow days are inevitable. Even if classes aren’t cancelled, mounds of snow still await you outside your dorm. Should you go outside? Mmm better not…

Not having to leave the house
The Weather Channel is advising to stay indoors and not drive anywhere? Oh darn, I really wanted to venture out in the -11 degree weather just for fun!!! No, embrace this fantastic opportunity about which all college students dream. Those lucky enough to live in the arctic tundra that is the Midwest at least. All we ever complain about is how much we wish we could stay in bed all day and that day has finally come! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the event for which we’ve been waiting! Not only are we forced to stay in bed, its actually being encouraged! EMBRACE IT!

Extra Sleep
What all students dream about, and thought to be something of an ancient myth, could it possibly actually exist? It can’t be… IT’S TRUE! A snow day is the best excuse to sleep in until, well, you decide you’ve had enough. That’s right, no alarm clock to wake you up, but you get to choose when you roll out of bed. And instead of waking up frantic that you’re late for class, you remember that it is in fact a snow day and pat yourself on the back for that 13+ hours of sleep. Way to go sleeping beauty.

Staying in your jammies all day
No need to get dressed when you won’t be leaving the house. (In a perfect world, this would be everyday!) Now none of this yoga pants/“comfy cute” nonsense; I’m talking full blown fleece, flannel, whatever the material pajama pants, and if you have a set with a matching top, even better. Nobody’s going to see you, so who cares what you’re wearing; take pride in those penguin footie pajamas! Wake up, and forget about having to pick out an outfit for the day, because you’ve already got your snow day jammies on.

Endless hours of TV and nobody to judge you for it
You’ve got nothing better to do than sit on the couch and not get up until dinner so hopefully your hands have had a good night’s rest because they will be doing most of the work today. Clicking next episode on Netflix is a lot of work for those little guys and you’ll be doing a lot of next episode-ing today. Or maybe you settle for regular TV: channel surfing?! Your fingers practically burn up a sweat doing all of that clicking up and down! Nobody can even yell at you to get up and stop being lazy because its blizzarding outside and what else are you supposed to be doing!? School will be back tomorrow anyways, so you better watch every episode of Friday Night Lights while you can.

Playing in the snow
Who doesn’t love being a kid again and plopping down in a huge pile of snow? Pull on your dorky snow pants (best part is you can keep your jammies on under!) and round up the neighbor kids for a good old snowball fight. Or get a carrot and stick it in your new friend Mr. Snowman. Roll around in the snow until you just can’t take the cold any longer, more TV awaits you inside!

Slurping Hot Chocolate
No snow day is complete without a nice steaming mug of hot chocolate. Shake off the snow and warm up with delicious chocolatey goodness, filed ot the brim with marshmallows and whip cream. Is this the best day ever or is this the best day ever?

There’s snow way to go wrong with a snow day!
