Cabin Fever Fashion

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

One of the perks of being a townie is that I’m always close to the greatest university on the planet. However, the weather has been less than perfect lately. I’m writing this as we’re completing day two of being snowed in. Hopefully, the never-ending piles of snow and negative temperatures will pass before classes start up again on Tuesday.

The nice thing about being snowed in is that I can lounge around all day and watch Netflix. I’ve worn nothing but comfy clothes these past couple days, and that’s fine by me. Staying warm is key during a snowstorm so grab your favorite blanket, a steaming cup of coffee, and a chunky sweater. Thick sweaters almost force you to layer. If the material is scratchy but the sweater is too cute to pass up, you’re forced to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath. I’d day it’s a win-win situation because you get to rock the sweater and stay extra cozy.

Another option to keep your vitals warm is a sweatshirt. On days like today I seek out my biggest and baggiest sweatshirt so it can cover my whole body if I choose to curl up on the couch. Although, sometimes after feeling trapped in the house for days on end I get an itch to wear “real” clothes. But let’s be honest, who wants to do that?  This monogrammed sweatshirt is a great compromise. It has the element of comfort while looking classy enough to be worn out of the house. The addition of the pearls kicks it up another notch.

Now that we’ve covered the top half of the body, let’s move on to the proper leg coverage for a snow day. My sweats, yoga pants, and leggings are getting their fair share of usage this week. I got the perfect pair of boyfriend sweatpants from Pink for Christmas and they have to be my new favorite pants to lounge in. The only downfall is that they’re plain and boring looking. After two days of being stuck in the house I’m ready to strangle my brothers and I’m looking for something other than the white snow that covers everything. These patterned leggings are a great distraction.

Don’t forget about your feet! My toes are usually the coldest part of my body, so I have to keep them covered at all times. When I don’t have to leave the house I throw on a pair of thick fuzzy socks or my slippers. I recently purchased Ugg slippers and I think it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I rarely take them off. It’s like the comfort of the traditional Ugg boot but in a more user-friendly form. They can be worn with or without socks and come in so many different styles and colors. These slippers were a great investment and I can’t wait to wear them around the dorm. Stay warm and enjoy the rest of your break!

Hey everyone! I love to write and cry over episodes of One Tree Hill (don't judge). My favorite things to write about are fashion and music. I am definitely an animal and plant lover. I'm a South Bend native so in a way, Notre Dame has always been a part of my home.
