Despite the lasting first impression this bachelor made (he walked into a closet after meeting Kirsten!), token freshman Omar Hunter said his goodbyes in the second to last episode of the Irish Bachelorette. This cutie stuck it out until the final four, but (fortunately for us single girls) did not win Kirsten’s heart. HCND caught up with Omar this week!Â
Year: 2017
Dorm:Â Sorin College
Major:Â Business
Hometown:Â Harlingen, Texas
Campus Activities:Â I play football and I’m in the Texas Club.Â
Relationship status:Â Single
Who are you? I’m a nice, humble guy that doesn’t say very much.
What does it mean to be a domer? It just means that when you see the Dome, you know this is home for you – that Notre Dame is home.
What is your best ND memory so far? The first football game, of course. Getting to be on the team, getting to walk on the field, seeing the student section – it’s amazing.Â
What is the #1 item on your ND bucket list? To have a snowball fight! This is my first time seeing snow so it’s a big deal!
What are the best and worst things about ND? The best is the camaraderie of it all, how nice and welcoming and genuine everyone is. The worst is the weather probably. I’m not used to the cold. Once I get the first snow ball out of my system, I’ll want it to be hot again.
If you could change one thing about Notre Dame, what would it be? Location; I would put it in a warm weather state.
What’s the best class you’re in so far? Intro to Theater with Ken Cole
Favorite spot on campus: Out by the lakes. The first month of school, a couple buddies and I went fishing out there… it’s beautiful.
Favorite Domer – dead, alive, or fictional? Lou Holtz
What do you wish ND girls knew? That it’s okay for you to come up to a guy first once in a while. You can take the initiative once in a while. Girls don’t realize that guys like when they take the initiative.Â
What do you wish you knew about ND girls? I wish I knew what they wanted… I don’t know how to explain it. Not necessarily what they wanted but what they think of me…
Ideal academic and professional endgame? I really don’t know what I want to do after college. Not sure what I want to do at the end of it all. Of course, academically everyone wants to finish at the top of their class and clichĂ© things like that but other than that I don’t know. I know I want to own my own business someday… Don’t ask me what kind!Â
In 25 years you will be… I want to have a stable job, maybe wife, maybe a kid…. Yeah, a wife and one kid.
Tell me something no one here knows about you. When I was in the first grade, I auditioned to be a model but they told me I wouldn’t cut it because I was too shy.
Guilty pleasure song/band? White Horse by Taylor Swift
Why did you initially audition for the Irish Bachelorette? I did it just because one of the guys from the football team told me they were looking for a football player who wasn’t going to be traveling this season and would be around on weekends to film and I fit that criteria.
What was your reaction to meeting Kirsten for the first time? “Ok, she’s cute, I can work with this!” There wasn’t much going through my head except to not make a fool out of myself which I ended up doing… (See the first episode)
Did you know any of the other guys? No, I did not.
How did you feel about the dynamic of the group? I thought the dynamic was good! We all went in not knowing what to expect and we all got really close. I hate to say it, but we got closer to each other than to her.
What were your thoughts on the one on one time you spent with Kirsten? I didn’t spend any one on one time with Kirsten which I think may have hurt me. We didn’t really have any intimate conversations which probably affected my chances.
How did you feel about getting cut from the show? Was it a shock or did you expect it? What did you feel led to it? Ultimately, I felt I was going to get cut. I was the odd man out – I was the only freshman. And, we didn’t get to spend any one on one time together so I kind of knew it.
Who were you rooting for to win once you left the show? Zach; we got pretty close.
If given another shot, what would you do differently? I guess I would just try to spend some one on one time with Kirsten.
What do you wish you knew going into the show? Actually, I’m kind of glad I didn’t know much about it. It made it more spontaneous and exciting to not know what was going to happen next.
Was it what you expected? For the most part, yeah. There was a little twist there – we didn’t get roses, we got hats. I’ve seen the original Bachelorette and overall, they followed the original show to a T.
What do you anticipate for your love life going forward? Gosh, I don’t know… Love is a mystery, so I guess whatever God throws my way, I’ll have to deal with. Just have to let love take its course, I guess.
Was the experience worth it? Definitely. It made me more well-known around campus and the camaraderie with the guys was amazing.Â

Thanks, Omar!
