Since midterms are now upon us, what better way to procrastinate then look at cats, right? Not just any cats though; the coolest cats you’ll ever see. Now if you’re “not a cat person” AKA close-minded AF and a hater of fluff and fun, then you might not enjoy this, but you’re missing out on some sick-looking felines.
As it turns out upon my extensive research of cats, there are certain breeds of cats cross-bred with wild cats…like lions. Well maybe not lions, but other dope looking animals of the cat variety. There are also cats which through some genetic luck look like they’re from the wild. Here are a few of the different types that, yes, can live in your house.
1. Savannah Cats
My personal fave, Savannah cats are domesticated kittens mixed with the African Serval, which gives them these cheetah-like spots, but on a little kitten, which is adorable. They are known for their lean bodies, big ears and high-energy personalities. Savannahs are differentiated by how many generations it is from its Serval ancestor, so the ones closest to the Serval are called F1 Savannahs and become pretty massive, but these aren’t typically recommended for households. Some states even have regulations on these kind of hybrid pets. However once you get down to an F5 the cat has far fewer Serval genes, so it’s smaller and more like a domestic cat. Who wouldn’t want a miniature jungle cat?
2. Pixiebob
Pixiebobs, as you might’ve guessed by the name, are thought to be the combination of domestic cats and bobcats, but there’s no actual proof for it since they occurred by natural mating rather than intentional breeding. They also have a mix of spots and stripes for that exotic look, but different than the Savannah cat these felines are very fluffy, have a stub of a tail and can have up to seven toes. They tend to stay closer to the size of normal domestic cats and are more restful then other hybrids, so they don’t quite have the same daunting factor as Savannahs.
3. Bengal
I know you were probably waiting for a cat that looks like a tiger, but the name of this cat is a bit deceiving. A mix between a domestic cat and Asian Leopard Cats, the Bengal can have an interesting marble look that is more similar to a tiger, but some also have a spotted pattern. There’s a more experimental breed called a Toyger which really resembles a small tiger, but the breed is still in development. Doesn’t matter though, because Bengals are pretty BA on their own.
If none of these fit your liking there are tons of cats with exotic markings, some without any wild lineage at all. Honestly, I don’t how anyone could still think cats are lame after learning about some of these breeds. I showed pictures of kittens because, let’s be real, that’s the most convincing way to present a cat, but even when they’re older they are mini, domestic jungle cats for crying out loud. COME ON. I mean no offense to my plain, old cat back home, but if he had some spots I might love him more… just kidding…but not really.
