Christmas morning: the one time of the year when everyone is a morning person. Even though Christmas is the main event, it can never hurt to look cute while your mom attempts to snap pictures of you opening presents as if you’re still five years old. Depending on what you’re up to on the 25th, there are a lot of different options to pull off that adorable, festive look.Â
1. PJs
My personal choice are classic pajamas. I really don’t think it’s necessary to change for Christmas morning. Not to mention holiday sleepwear is the cutest kind. Pairing a comfy, t-shirt with your favorite pants is the best way to truly embody laziness…cute laziness. Then when you wake up, no getting ready necessary; you can immediately curl up with a cup of coffee or cocoa and get to the festivities.
For this look I went to my favorite store for sleepwear: Aerie. These plaid PJ pants embody the trendy jogger style while staying pretty traditional with the print. The t-shirt is actually from Abercrombie & Fitch, which has totally rebranded so don’t hate. Since my dream future includes a complete Spode Christmas dining set I put the mug in as a bit of wishful thinking.
Aerie Flannel Jogger, $34.95. Snoopy Graphic Tee, $25. Aerie Cozy Slippers, $24.95. Spode Christmas Tree Mug, $11.99.
2. With the Extended Fam
I guess if you’re hosting a whole hoard of people, or attending a gathering with your extended family, you might need to actually get dressed. Then a nice, casual winter outfit should do the trick. It’s the perfect time to pull out your favorite sweater and jeans. No need to go all out. They’re your family so I think they have to like you no matter what?
Turtlenecks are making a comeback, which being an eternally cold person I am totally for. I know I wear my burgundy jeggings more than I probably should, but in the fall and winter I can’t help it. With casual Sperry bootie type things and a dainty initial beaded bracelet the outfit is complete. The little nutcracker key-chain is just a cute extra touch.
Abercrombie & Fitch Yarn-Dyed Turtleneck, $29. Bullhead Cabernet Mid-Rise Leggings, $54.95. Sperry Top-Sider Peak Blvd Sneaker, $112.99. Harrods Guardsmen Key Ring, $12. Bead Charm Bracelet, $29.61.
3. Mass (or whatever church service you want)
I guess some people go to mass Christmas morning? I mean I personally choose to go the night before for the Christmas Eve service, but to each their own. Regardless, dressing up for Christmas mass is always fun. Finding a pretty dress in a deep red or green, wearing your favorite heels (bonus: they only have to be worn for about and hour and a half), doing your hair and makeup all nice; nothing like getting a little fancy for the holidays. The dim lighting at mass creates the perfect atmosphere for the perfect ensemble. Plus, pics by the Christmas tree are gorgeous.
This outfit pairs an elegant red dress with a chunky cardigan to keep you nice and warm. This oversized, buttonless wool coat is a style I’ve been obsessed with lately (hint, hint Santa Clause). A simple bracelet because you’re #blessed and some crystally earrings make the look a bit more fancy schmancy.
ModCloth Gallery Curator Dress, $41.99. AEO Draped Cardigan, $44.96. Sam Edelman Crystal Fan Earrings, $45. H&M Bouclé Wool Blend Coat, $59.99. Navy Jersey Tights, $30. BCBG Generation Spoken Words Bracelet, $18. OPI Russian Navy Nail Polish, $8.89. MAC Heavy Petting Lipstick, $17. Michael Antonio Lily Heels, $35.99.
4. An Ugly Christmas Sweater
Sometimes you can combine the casual, comfortable and festive. An oversized “ugly” (but really we wear them to be cute, right?) Christmas sweater with leggings and fuzzy socks makes for a cheery look that’s warm and honestly doesn’t take any effort.
I decided to give you three lovely choices. The first is a Wildfox sweatshirt, which is literally my favorite brand for sweatshirts. They’re like the softest things you’ll ever feel and there are dozens of adorable designs. Second is a more steretypical ugly sweater, like the kind that people wore in the 90s and grandmas still wear today. This one is pretty subtle, but nowadays you can get as crazy as you want with them. The third isn’t necessarily ugly, but has that fair-isle print that is what I call a wearable Christmas sweater. Below are just three pairs out of the bunches of Christmas socks that are sold.
Wildfox Christmas Tree Sweater, $148.49. Dorothy Perkins Fair Isle Chrsitmas Sweater, $44. L.L. Bean Apres Turtleneck Sweater, $109. TOPSHOP Gingerbread Man Socks, $6. Abercrombie & Fitch Christmas Socks $9.99. TOPSHOP Reindeer Socks, $6.
Whether you’re opening presents, singing hymns, hanging out with the family, or maybe just sleeping, enjoy your Christmas morning. It truly is the climax fo the entire season, so embrace it with love and joy and Santa’s leftover cookies.Â
