Hey there, college fashionistas! I see you walking around campus in your new bomber jacket, strutting in those Adidas Originals, and just being a fantastic version of YOU. You go, girl! But do you ever feel like there’s a disconnect between your college life and high fashion? Do you crave a print version of Vogue and a detailed description of the highlights of Fashion Week? Well look no further! I’m going to give you the rundown on all things Fashion Week, from New York to London, Milan to Paris. I hope this article leaves you feeling inspired to peruse the online ready-to-wear collections that each of these designers brought to us on the stage this September-October. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the highlights of Fashion Week 2016!

1. Stella McCartney

When I first read that Stella McCartney’s line was geared towards accessibility, equality for women, and animal rights, I was SO IN. I’ve been waiting for her new collection to make its debut for quite some time. The talented daughter of the former Beatle Paul McCartney designed her first jacket at the age of 13 and then went on to become a success in the fashion industry. A lifelong vegetarian, she does not use any furs or leather in her designs. How cool is that? McCartney has a knack for giving her clothing a kind of ease, meaning there are no superfluous silhouettes that distract. It’s all about being natural. For this show, she managed to incorporate the season’s trends with modern corset waists and cotton button-up shirts tucked into baggy pants. Talk about chic! The show ended with a fun dance party. McCartney posted shortly after the show on Instagram: “I wanted the message to be love. I wanted it to be soulful, sometimes you have to spell it out…” Thanks for spelling out the love, Stella. We <3 you too.

2. Alexander McQueen

The current creative director of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton, gave a stunningly crafted show in London before going on maternity leave for the fall 2016 collection (shout out to mom goals). Burton clearly did her research for next season, basing her looks off of surrealist prints and knits as fine as cobwebs. The goal was to blur reality with a dream state, and she certainly went above and beyond! Among the motifs in the show were embroidered flowers (floral is in this fall, ladies) and ivory silk dresses embellished by leather jackets. I have to describe this look as the perfect balance between edgy and feminine. The show began with dark leather and transitioned into luxurious nude lace and whimsical prints. Fairy princess + biker chick. I can dig it.

3. Diesel Black Gold

Possibly one of my favorite shows I’ve seen by far, Diesel Black Gold took the stage in Milan under the direction of Andreas Melbostad (who previously worked with Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, and Nina Ricci). The Diesel brand was created in 1978, a brand standing for passion, individuality, and expression. Their denim has evolved into premium casual wear, and Diesel Black Gold is the brand’s contemporary line. The thing I love about it I can see anyone buying the clothes as they are and wearing them around campus. The clothes are casual enough that you envision yourself wearing them, not just a model. The brand also supports Only the Brave Foundation: a non-profit with the mission to fight social inequality and contribute to sustainable development. 90% of the profits go toward helping areas in Sub-Saharan Africa! The show was full of embellished details, shrunken velvet bomber jackets (my personal fall favorite) and quilted nylon crop tops paired with A-line miniskirts. Bring out those jackets! They’re the it thing for fall. Take some tips from Diesel Black Gold and you’ll be looking like a true fashionista.

Have enough inspiration to start dreaming up your next fall outfit? I know I’m ready to hit the stores soon! I think it’s safe to say that this fall you’ll be seeing a lot of bomber jackets, leather, mini-skirts, and florals. Whatever you do, stay true to yourself and wear what makes you feel good. Confidence never goes out of style! XOXO
