Pie is one of my favorite desserts! I love baking them, filling the kitchen with the scent of warm, freshly made pie. It’s so comforting, especially during the cold months of late fall and winter.
However, pie is also a great treat for the summer! Here are some the best varieties to enjoy while on break, whether you make them yourself or simply want to eat delicious pie.
1. Traditional Fruit-filled Pies
These warm, flaky pastries are just as delicious during the summer time as during the fall and winter. They are especially well-suited for hot weather when paired with whipped cream or a la mode!
Blueberry
Very traditional, and very delicious! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Cherry
An American Classic. Perfect for the Fourth of July!
Strawberry Rhubarb
It may sound strange, but trust me, this pie is DELICIOUS!
2. Citrus/Meringue Pies
You can also choose a citrus inspired pie, whose flavors practically scream summer. Citrus is just as refreshing in a pie as in a tall, cool glass of lemonade.
Lemon Meringue
Sweet and tangy lemon curd topped by light, fluffy meringue. Delectable!
Key Lime
Like lemon, the flavor of lime evokes the season of summer.
3. Cream Pies
Cream pies are also a great choice for a summer dessert, as their silky smooth texture is more than decadent enough to qualify these pies as a soothing, summer vacation treat.
Coconut Cream
The tropical flavor of coconut is perfect for the summer (and quite tasty too!)
Banana Cream
Another fantastic fruit choice for the summer, this pie reinvents one of the only fruits available in the dining hall.
Strawberry Cream
Strawberries and cream, a match made in heaven. Also a terrific summer choice!
4. Yogurt Pie
Finally, Yogurt Pie is a terrific choice of pie for the current weather because it is served as a frozen dessert! What better way to end a meal during the hot months of summer! Plus, it only requires three ingredients and can be made with your favorite flavor of yogurt!
Happy pie eating, collegiettes!
