Nicholas C. Jones ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

In the midst of a ridiculous and hellish Midterms week, what shines through are Campus Cuties.

One cutie in particular should catch your eye: Mr. Nick Jones. When he isn’t playing FIFA with his quadmates and sectionmates, Nick is typically programming some pretty wicked stuff or consuming gluten-free ‘sweets’. He adores many things in life, most of all his siblings, his Vineyard Vines Ireland sweatshirt, coining new (and nonsensical) gangster words, and his membership in the Fresh Prince fan club.

Nick is also one of those people who are everywhere, but nowhere at the same time, so no doubt you’ll recognize him. Take a moment and chat with him next time you see him, because Nick is one of the most amazing people I have ever met… we wouldn’t be #besties otherwise!

Basics:

Name: Nick Jones

Year: Sophomore

Major: Computer Science with a minor in Business

Activities: President of Gluten Free ND, Frosh-O Staff, Playing FIFA, Undergraduate Research, Most Dangerous Mass Choir

Dorm: Alumni Hall…”the Delt House”

Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA. The City of Champions. It’s way nicer than everyone thinks it is.

Relationship status: Shakin’, bakin’, and taken

Opening line: “Every picture I take I pose a threat.”

Nick and his girlfriend, Sara. The cutest, right?!

Random:

What is your favorite Pokemon?

Charizard. Because he’s fiya flame.

If you were a Jimmy John’s delivery boy, what would be your go-to stunt to pull on customers?

I would tell them about how I got fired from Subway back in the day…

What crayon color would you be? Midnight Blue

I don’t know about you, but this is the most hipster thing I have seen all week

Say you’re a ping-pong ball. Give me your life story in less than 3 sentences.

The story involves a lot of bouncing and ends in the bottom of a cup…

Personal:

Why ND?

I grew up a Michigan fan, I had no desire to come here, and my mom made me stop here on the tail end of a college visit. Once I heard the Irish music in the Bookstore, I opened up to the school, and I loved it. A few months later, I was accepted, committed, and Notre Dame was my #1 love.

Once an ND fan, always an ND fan.

Computer Science is a great major. Tell us about your research.

I work in the Computer Vision Research Lab, which focuses on using computers to conduct biometric research through human feature recognition, analysis, and matching. It’s as cool as it sounds.

Tell me your funniest ND experience.

Waking it and Shaking it.  The details are shrouded in mystery.

Who in your life has made the greatest impact on you?

My mom. My dad’s not really in the picture, and she’s always been there for my two siblings and me. My number one life goal is to be half the parent she is.

I think good looks run in the family… no?

Tough Choices:

Hunter or gatherer? Hunter. I’m grown.

Big Foot or Sasquatch? Actually gonna have to say Little Foot. My good friend Patrick Jeffers has a littlefoot and I prefer him to a mythical creature.

The best freshman section in a guys dorm last year, 1SA Alumni!

Yellow or Orange? Neither, but my first phone was the orange enV in seventh grade so…

Snow or rain? Rain in moderation, snow in excess.

Thanks, Nick!

Hello there! I am a Computer Science major from the golden Redding, California. I enjoy making people smile, dazing about the ocean, smelling like sunshine, and programming until my fingers cramp. California sand is my friend and I would much rather be laughing at the beach than almost anything else. I am a firm believer in great things taking copious amounts of time. Jason Mraz said it best with "the absence of the light is a necessary part." Though I see the incredibility of technology, the simple things in life are what really matter. The concept of 'family' is an extraordinary attribute of modern civilization. Check out my articles if you ever so desire!
