Spring at Notre Dame is kind of like a flaky friend. It shows up when it wants and leaves when it wants, with little regard for how it makes you feel. You can’t count on it to pull through, but when it does, all of your frustration vanishes and you enjoy the time you have together.Â
1. At some point in March, one warm day surprises campus, and by warm I mean, like, 50 degrees. Students are bursting with excitement.
2. Pretty soon it snows, and students snap back to reality, realizing this is South Bend and March still counts as winter here.
3. Then, after a couple weeks of snow/wind/cold/misery/despair, spring actually arrives.
4. Students rush out to the quad throwing frisbees, studying, setting up hammocks. Campus really comes alive.
5. Guys go shirtless, which could be a blessing or a curse depending on who you’re looking at.
If only Ryan Gosling was on South Quad playing Spikeball.Â
6. Pale legs and arms see sun for the first time, and then get burnt at Pigtostal.
7. Girls start strutting around in cute skirts and dresses because have had these clothes sitting in their closets for months. Consequently, we also begin to shave regularly again.
8. Dorms without A/C start to really feel the heat.
9. Right at the end, the flowers and trees might bloom enough to get the ever elusive spring dome pic.
10. After a couple weeks, it’s finals week and the warmth stays, but students’ enthusiasm begins to subside as hell commences.
Happy Spring ND!
