Spotted on the way to brunch at NDH: Caitlin Schlehuber

Caitlin was rocking electric blue pants and a chic grey blazer, paired perfectly with a fun tribal necklace and classic converse.  The whole outfit looks fierce for a post-Feve morning and will definitely turn heads; dining hall crush look out.

Being a relatively style-less individual myself, I decided to sit down with her (a.k.a crash her brunch) and find out what makes her style sense so on point.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Laid back, colorful California with a hint of Midwest prep. It’s a mix of where I’m from and where I am.

Q: What are your major style influences?

A: After an internship of basically professional shopping in New York, my style was definitely influenced a lot just by the culture surrounding me. I definitely became more daring and open to trying new things (authors note: this coming from a girl who has tribal print harem pants, so I can really only imagine how one can get more daring). Also everyone in New York has their own distinct style like one costume designer, this completely fabulous and flamboyant guy, always wore khakis, a belt, a polo and sneakers, while another woman would wear plain shirt, a long button down oxford, black pants and van type shoes. So they’ve just influenced me to find my own “uniform.”

Q: What’s the favorite thing in your closet?

A: That would be a tie between my electric blue pants and my blue blazer. I’ve got a thing for blue. It’s my power color. Sometimes I think it might be part of the reason why I choose Notre Dame; now I get to rock navy at all times.

Q: What’s the last thing you bought?

A: A tank top maxi dress from… Aeropostale. I don’t normally shop there I swear! But if the clothes are cute, the clothes are cute! I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter where it is from, but rather it just matters how it looks on you. And I promise it is super cute.

Q: What is your favorite fashion faux pas to commit?

A: White after Labor Day. We don’t follow this rule at home, so when I came to Notre Dame, I was shocked when people took it so seriously. No white pants or shoes? Come on, that’s like half my wardrobe!

Q: What is the most ridiculous outfit you’ve ever worn?

A: I worked in the wardrobe department on a Chris Rock movie this summer. One of my assignments was to model a bear costume for the designer. It was huge, hot and ultimately scrapped from the movie. But now that I’ve got that under my belt, I think sometime this year I’m going to have to upgrade to the Lewis Hall chicken suit. I don’t know if one can get more ridiculous than that.

Q: Coco Chanel or Christian Dior?

A: Coco Chanel: The original fashion icon. How could you pick anyone over the woman who invented the little black dress?

Q: Describe the outfit you would want to be caught dead in.

A: Jennifer Lawrence’s dress from the 2011 Oscars. Simple, but smokin’ hot.  I’m pretty sure the only way it could be made any better is if I could turn into Jennifer Lawrence herself. It’s safe to say I have a little bit of a girl crush. But yeah, that dress, I’d wear it forever if I could.

Q: How would you describe the overall style of Notre Dame?

A: J. Crew catalog for spring, summer and fall. Throw on a North Face or Patagonia for the winter.
