10 Best Moustaches of All Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

November – as well as dark afternoons, cold winds, and abysses of slippery leaves all the way down Derby Road, this winter month also signals the arrival of a little extra facial hair for some of the boys on campus. The Movember Foundation, which started in 2003, aims to change the face of men’s health. So far, in total, they’ve raised over ÂŁ346 million, with an estimated 4 million moustaches grown worldwide!

I therefore deem this article to be a celebration of the beloved facial hair that sits above the lips. I’m a self-confessed lover of The Mo (as well as its brother, the beard, but I won’t go into that here) and I have no doubt that by the end of this countdown, you’ll be Team Tash too…

10. David Gandy

British model David Gandy – with potentially THE best arms I have ever seen – comes in at number 10. Not always a thick Tash I must admit, but without that little bit of fuzz, some of his magic would be taken away from him. Not really sure how to cope or continue with that image of his blue eyes boring into my soul.

9. James Franco

James Franco. Even with his arm stuck in a rock and about to be severed off, you just can’t take your eyes off his beautiful face and more importantly, the moustache. Some great shaping techniques going on here – well done James.

8. Zane Lowe

Okay, so I’m not sure how many people agree with me here, but I have an insane crush on Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe. Is it his New Zealand accent? Is it his impeccable music taste? Or is it… the power of The Mo???

7. Jonathan Rhys Meyers

The first film I saw Jonathan Rhys Meyers in was Bend It Like Beckham (in which he had a questionable Irish accent) and I just knew he had potential. I’m not sure when he made the transition from hairless to hairy… all I know is that I like it. I like it a lot.

6. Leonardo DiCaprio

This Tash has the power to divide nations. Some people hate Leo’s facial hair, because they cling onto Jack Dawson/Romeo so tightly. For me, Leo could style himself in any way at ALL and I would still adore him – though youthful, clean-shaven Leo was my first love, I can’t deny the power of his new-found ruggedness.

5. Kate Moss

Bet you weren’t expecting THAT. Hey, let’s not exclude the ladies here. A milk Tash 100% counts, especially if you’re supermodel royalty like Kate Moss. Here she is looking as incredible as ever back in the 90s for a milk advert. Ladies, take a leaf out of Kate’s book: keep your bones strong and drink your milk this Movember.

4. Orlando Bloom

Where is Orlando hiding these days?? If anyone knows, could you please come forward and report his whereabouts to Her Campus? It’s been too long since Orlando popped up on our screens, gracing us with his luscious locks and artful arrangement of facial hair.

3. Lionel Richie

Admittedly going a little rogue here, but bear with me. Lionel’s moustache can only be described as ICONIC. If this Tash doesn’t make you want to party, karamu, fiesta all night long then you’ve got a problem. It’s old school and a strong, solid effort from Richie.

2. King Triton

Two words: Silver. Fox. King Triton’s moustache is flowing and voluminous, and embraces that white colour to show how aged and wise he truly is. And how wrong would his beard look without the Mo attached? Must get in the way a bit when he’s swimming around though.

1. University of Nottingham Tashes

Last but not least, there are some Tashes being home-grown, groomed and nurtured right here on campus! My housemate Nick is part of Nottingham’s radio station and he and three others are growing their moustaches for Movember. What better way to show your appreciation of the Mo by donating a bit of money to a worthy cause? Donate to Nick’s page here. Or donate to any Mo Bro that you know of and support the cause!
