10 Ways to Ensure You Look Fab After a Night Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Whilst at uni we make our body suffer. Going out drinking and dancing, whilst leaving only a small amount of time for sleep, can take its toll.  Hangovers mixed with the mammoth task of trying to make it into uni on time can leave us resembling The Exorcist. It’s not attractive but it is a situation that every girl finds herself in. Her Campus Nottingham is here to help, follow the tips below and we will have you looking as fabulous as ever, even on the day after the night before!

1. Rehydrate yourself

When stumbling in from a night out, most girls will automatically stagger into their bedroom and collapse into bed. DONT DO IT! Get up, head to the kitchen and start drinking water! It’s a fact that alcohol dehydrates your body, leaving you with a terrible hangover and skin that is dry and tight. Drinking a pint of water before you go to sleep can prevent this, making you wake up fresher than expected.

2. Let your skin breathe

There is no doubt that on a night out you wear more make up than normal. The extra bronzer, mascara and foundation can make you look like a movie star. However it seeps into your skin, blocking your pores and leading to breakouts. Don’t worry, this mask of makeup is fine for the 5 hours you wear it for on a night out, but once you’re home, get it off and LET YOUR SKIN BREATHE!

3. Shock yourself awake

When surviving on 4 hours sleep and trying to make it to a 9am lecture, it is important to ensure you are fully awake. It may sound horrific, but soaking a flannel in ice cold water and laying it on your face for 5 minutes can make all the difference. It will make you scream a little but it can also rejuvenate your face, making your skin and eyes appear brighter.

4. Shower!

There is nothing worse than sitting in a lecture next to someone that smells of last night’s alcohol, looks like a tramp and has the resonance of half a Crisis stamp on their arm. Don’t be that person.  Walk into uni smelling fresh and looking clean, it can completely mask the whole I-have-a–hangover-look.

5. Exfoliate away that hangover

Whilst in the shower, use a light exfoliator on your face to rejuvenate your complexion and leave yourself with a natural glow. I would recommend using St Ives Blemish and Blackhead clearing Apricot Scrub. It smells really good and is nice and light, ensuring that it doesn’t clog up your pours.

6. Conceal those bags

According to InStyle.com, alcohol causes the blood vessels in your eyes to dilate, leading to puffiness and the formation of dark circles. The skin under your eyes is much thinner than the rest of your face and concealer alone is too thick. Dilute your concealer with a light moisturiser and brush it under your eyes for full coverage. I would recommend using Simple Light Moisturiser. It is delicate and therefore suitable for the under eye area.

7. Make your eyes pop

If your eyes are still looking dreary and tired, apply a dot of light coloured eye shadow to the inner corner of your eyes. This makes your eyes look wider, making you look more awake.

8. Lift your face!

After a night out your face needs all the help it can get to look fresh and lively. The best way to get this look is to add a little bit of colour by using a natural based lipstick. Try this one from MAC’s new Betty range called Girl Next Door.

9. Get your hair smelling fresh

Most girls spend hours making their hair look perfect. However, a combination of spilt drinks and the awful odour of clubs leave your hair smelling far from fresh. The best way to get rid of the smell is to use a body spray all over your hair. It is less concentrated than perfume so won’t suffocate people sitting nearby and will easily mask the smell.

10. Too much is a no-no

Girls sometimes feel the need to over compensate when they are hung-over. Often deciding to cake themselves in make up or dress like they are going to meet the Queen. It looks ridiculous.  After a night out all you want to do is be in bed, so dress comfy. Shove on a pair of leggings and minimal make up. Uni isn’t a fashion show!

I know it sounds like doing all of this before you go to uni will take forever. Plus the added hangover that you will most definitely be suffering from will make its completion more difficult than a marathon. You are infact wrong.  This routine should take you no longer than half an hour, the time it normally takes most girls to get ready. You will be walking around uni looking fresh and your friends will be thinking, “She looks too good to have a hangover”.

… Et voila – you are the envy of everyone!
