Name: Alex Forsyth
Hometown: Bristol, for my sins, but I say Bath cos I’ve spent way more time there and it’s nicer (and posher)
Degree: MA in International Security and Terrorism – which seems to make everyone I tell go ‘woah’ or look a little surprised.
Year: Um, first? Let’s say first, makes me sound younger…
Campus Involvement: Well I go there sometimes if that’s what you mean. I did recently join the Pole Dance society, which is both great fun and full of women as a bonus. Going to have to seriously start stretching though if I want to be any good.
Dream Job: Helicopter pilot (specifically Apaches would be awesome, but anything that flies would be perfectly acceptable). Otherwise famous novelist (working on this one, albeit slowly). Or spy, but that’s further down the list. My mum always said I should learn a trade as a backup profession, so I figured MI6 assassin would do.
Personal Claim to Fame: Once saw Jon Snow walking away from me at the Hay-on-Wye literary festival. Although since I never saw his face, he was just a tall guy with grey hair in a suit walking away, so I’ll have to trust that my mum was right when she said it was him.
Fun Fact: Never run from a sniper. You will only die tired.
Favourite Food: Fish, of almost any sort, but I’m far too lazy to buy and cook it most of the time. Also really like fruit, but mostly tropical ones so again it’s more cost and effort than I can normally be bothered with.
Most Embarrassing Uni Moment: Probably if I’m honest the first two years of my undergrad, during which I had no social life and did almost nothing except go to class. Second two went rather better I have to say, although I’m now packing as much debauchery as possible into my masters year in case this is my last chance before Real Life hits me full force.
Where can you be found on a Friday night in Notts?: Out pretty much anywhere with friends assuming I get a good offer (the more rock and metal they play the better, but I can always counteract bad music with alcohol). Or staying in with someone if the chance arises, my ideal night would have one followed by the other. So far no two Fridays here have been the same which is just the way I like it!
