Fried Chicken, Soft-serve Ice Cream, Graffiti, and Hip-Hop.
These are the things that Alchemilla’s Michelin-star chef, Alex Bond, is passionate about. So why not combine them and create the best-fried chicken shop ever?! Hidden behind a graffitied door on Derby Road, lies a world of colour and creation. The restaurant walls are plastered in graffiti from the likes of local street artists Kid30 and Boaster. And much to my excitement, the playfulness and innovation were carried through to the flavours on the menu.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays, the establishment offers a £15 Deal, in which you get their Cauliflower cheeseburger, made up of Cauliflower cheese, truffle, caramelised shallots, and Lincolnshire poacher, house fries, and a small glass of their house wine. Initially, I thought that this wasn’t going to satisfy my hunger, but boy was I wrong.
The fried chicken within the burger was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. The chicken was coated in a rich cheesy sauce which was surprisingly decadent, so much so that it will make you refuse American cheese slices forever. All of this between two perfectly toasted brioche buns to add a hint of sweetness, cutting through the rich sauce. It was beyond insanely good chicken. The fries themselves were top-tier, perfectly crunchy, and fluffy inside. They also offer a variety of sauces to complement. We chose the scotch bonnet mayo and heads up, it packs a punch.
Despite being full, I refused to be defeated as I was insistent on trying the soft-serve ice cream. Despite this not being included in the deal, I’m extremely glad we treated ourselves to the chocolate & caramel, marshmallow, oat raisin cookie, it was proper naughty.
Mollis did not disappoint. In marrying hip-hop, graffiti and fried chicken, the establishment is a huge success, ensuring that you have an unforgettable and tasty experience.
