How The Grammy’s Was Basically A Student Night Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

The 2017 Grammy’s took place at the Staples Centre and everyone was on high alert to catch a glimpse of the kings and queens of the music industry. However, upon closer inspection the night seemed to hold similarities to a night that most students can relate to. Obviously this may seem strange considering these stars are celebrities and therefore can’t be likened to a cheap student on a night out. But oh boy how wrong you are…

  1. The night begins with an awkward and sober greeting at pre’s…and the realisation that alcohol needs to be consumed immediately in order to avoid silences and isolated conversations with the one friend you know out of the group.

2. Followed quickly by numerous shots in order to get through the night !! In this case Rihanna is everyone’s spirit animal on a night out. The plan to get you and your friend completely gone is in full swing for the night.

3. You know the right time of the night is when you emerge from you ‘broken the seal’ pee feeling like a goddess…with the ray of the heavens shining down on you. A quick nod to the group to acknowledge, ‘yes I know I look good you don’t have to tell me’, and then off to the taxi !!

4. This is it. You and your friend are ready to conquer the dance floor ! Upon entering the club you both break out in hip thrusts as you channel your inner professional dancer and execute incredible moves in awe of everyone around you.

5. The obligatory announcement to friends, friends of friends and random strangers that your love for them is everlasting ! Even though you may never speak to them sober… 6. Slipping off the dance floor for a quick pee break only to find your long lost best friend in the bathroom. Even though you have never met before you feel a strong bond much like the bond between Beyonce and Adele. You’ll never see this girl again, but she will always live on in your memories.

7. And finally the best part of the night when you arrive home to your loving bed, whilst being wrapped up like a burrito by your best friend and thanking everyone for such an amazing night…even though you’ll hate life the next day.

Surprisingly, the grammy’s is just like a regular student night out. But then again they don’t have to pay for a single drink and get treated like royalty so I guess it’s not completely the same. Student’s can only dream.

My name is Leah Hemmings and I've just returned from a year abroad in America and I'm about to start my final year in History and American Studies at the University of Nottingham. Even though I am in my final year, this is my first time working with Her Campus and I'm really looking forward to what is in store for me. As you can tell from my job title I mainly enjoy all things entertainment and always make sure to watch a new film everyday (primarily because I get to veg out while watching them). At the same time I make sure to keep updated on anything new coming out in case its really juicy and worth a watch. Having the opportunity to write about something I love and enjoy and being able to share it with other entertainment lovers gets me excited about what I'm writing even more. Alongside watching films I love a good read and obviously writing as well as a nice nap here and there. I look forward to finishing my year at Nottingham with Her Campus and can't wait to share some of my blog pieces with everyone.
