This summer, they were unavoidable. They were everywhere, spread over girls like some sort of rash, only a rash that looked good with skinny jeans and wedge heels. The camisole top came back with a vengeance last season, but we need not forget it for Autumn/Winter – they are a versatile item of clothing that shouldn’t sit at the back of the wardrobe gathering dust.
Camisole tops are brilliant for any student because they are relatively cheap and can be worn in a variety different ways for pretty much any occasion, and seamlessly transform between day to night – casual enough to be thrown on for a lecture, dressy enough to pair with a midi skirt and some high heels for a night out to Coco Tang.
This camisole top is £12 from ASOS – it may seem a little steep, particularly for those of you who are now using Primark as your staple clothing shop, but the quality is better and will last you longer; anything cheaper may not look so chic and might end up appearing tatty.
For an effortless daytime look as you mooch about campus, pair this cami with some simple black leggings – a steal from H&M for only ÂŁ5.99 – and a neat pair of biker books; another fashion staple in my eyes, particularly with the onset of Nottingham’s winter snap. These ones are also from H&M and are ÂŁ24.99, but there are some cheaper alternatives that can be found in many of the smaller, independent shoe shops in Nottingham.
The camisole top can be dressed to look more formal; a failsafe, pretty cousin to the typical strappy vest, the camisole top can be dressed with  a plain black midi skirt, as seen here for £25 from River Island, keeping bang on trend with this sexy leather look sheen. A black skater skirt is an effortlessly girly and feminine alternative; a bargain for only £10 from boohoo.com. Both are easily embellished with any pair of black heels, like this simple and classic suede pair available from Missguided.
Of course, not every night out in Nottingham is a sophisticated one, and even on these slightly messier events the camisole top can be styled out. Shorts are a fashion fixture on a night out and, like with skirts, you can still keep the look fresh by trying a leather pair. This pair from River Island is slightly more costly at £30, but there are some cheaper alternatives – if you’re brave, you can try these hot pants from Missguided.
And let’s not forget the forever faithful disco pant – an item of clothing that surged in popularity last winter and should not be forgotten about. If you did not manage to pick up a pair last year, boohoo.com does a collection of different colours and styles ranging from £8 to £20.
So there you have it, three simple ways to wear your camisole top, Nottingham style!
