5 STARS *****
I had wanted to visit Marrakesh ever since I heard about it last year and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The interior is wonderfully decorated, with wall hangings and lamps fit for a Moroccan souk. The tables have fresh rose petals scattered on them, with a lamp in the middle of each table. Even without having the food I already loved this restaurant.
I decided to be a typical tourist and for my drink I ordered the Moroccan mint tea. It arrived in a gorgeous teapot and I was pleasantly surprised by the flavour. It was quite sweet but had a minty aftertaste which made it as refreshing as it was addictive. A must for anyone coming to this restaurant.
I decided on a chicken spinach roulade. The chicken was very tender and the sauce was incredible, with a spicy relish accompanying it. The menu is moderately expensive for a student budget at around £12-15 for a main meal but there is a large selection to choose from. It ranges from classic tangines to grilled meat dishes so there is something for everyone – there are a lot of vegetarian options too. Although you can be paying a fair amount you get exactly what you pay for. The portions are large and all the side garnishes and decorations are superb. I’m still dreaming about the side relish I got with my meal!
Although the food was excellent, the entertainment was the most impressive thing about the evening. I had jokingly remarked to my friends, “All I need now was a belly dancer and my evening will be complete.” Well, there must have been a genie hidden in my teapot because 5 minutes later, I got my wish. The music got louder and suddenly a belly dancer appeared in full costume! She danced two sets in the evening, and performs every Friday and Saturday. My only complaint about the evening? I watched the belly dancing for too long and my rice got cold.
All in all a fabulous evening and a must visit place for all Nottingham students.
