After hours of being sunk into the world of Pinterest I stumbled across ‘the Bullet Journal’. I absolutely LOVE organisation and get embarrassingly excited about finding new ways to organise, so I couldn’t help but look more into this concept. After reading just a few sentences I was drawn in and knew I had to try it.
So, I’m sure lots of you are thinking, what the hell is a bullet journal?! It’s simply a way of journaling your entire life. The mastermind behind it all, Ryder Carroll describes it as “an analogue system to track the past, organise the present and plan for the future”. It’s centred upon the idea that usual, traditional styles of journaling involve a lot of effort and can be largely tedious. According to Ryder, the more effort it requires, the more of a chore it becomes and the more likely you’ll underuse or discard your journal; rapid logging, on the other hand, is the absolute opposite; it’s quick, clear and simple.
The key:
N.B. You can personalise the key however you like!
The 4 essential components:
1) INDEX
Allows you to access topics within your journal quickly. Keep a note of your topics and their page numbers here.
2) FUTURE LOG
Used to keep on track things of you want to get done in the future.
3) MONTHLY LOG
A calendar of the month and a list of things to get done within the month.
4) DAILY LOG
An every day to-do list using the language of rapid logging.
At end of month, each task you haven’t completed, question whether they’re still necessary to complete. If so, change the dot into a right arrow and transfer it to next months’ log. If the answer is no, simply cross it out. If the task isn’t due for a while, change the dot into a left arrow and write it in the corresponding month in the future log, helping you focus on your priorities. This is known as migration.
So there are the basics of the new craze: The Bullet Journal. Get started today, all you need is a pen and a notebook – it’s as simple as that.
