Summer Festival Fashion and Beauty Hacks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

With exams and deadlines very nearly out of the way, it’s time to look forward to summer. With Summer comes festivals, but for the majority of us, the festivals we will be attending will be far less glamorous than Coachella. The reality is that you probably won’t have access to a shower for a few days and your choice of tent will be far from glamping. So, we’ll  show you how to still look your best at a UK Summer festival with minimal amounts of products and no electricity, to put even Coachella to shame.

Dry Shampoo is your new best friendIf you’re packing essentials, make dry shampoo one of them. Not only will it clean your hair without access to a shower, it’s also used by many celebrity hair stylists to create volume and texture, which will make your festival hairstyle much easier to work with.

Ditch the Makeup Wipes

It may seem logical to take makeup wipes to a festival when you don’t have access to running water, but these are incredibly bad for the skin and will dry out easily. Instead try micellar water, which even removes stubborn mascara and will remove your face glitter in one sweep.

Bright Lipstick

Doing your makeup outside of your tent squinting in to a tiny mirror is a skill. I admire anybody who attempts a Smokey eyeshadow look at a festival. As a substitute, keep the rest of your makeup natural and minimal, but add a bright lip to make the look more put-together and fun.

Patterned Wellies

If you’re headed to a UK festival, the sad reality is that there is a risk of spending your weekend knee-deep in mud. Invest in some fun wellies like these ones from Joules to make the mud a whole lot more exciting, and stop the weather from ruining your outfit.

Don’t forget the sun cream!

I don’t want to sound like a parent but being outside 24/7 and even in the clouds still makes you exposed to harmful UV rays. Make sure you’re at all times wearing SPF. Trust me, I burnt my nose at a rainy festival in Derbyshire last summer and spent the next few months looking like Rudolph…
