Along with hot chocolate and cosy blankets, one of my favourite staples for this time of year is tartan. I love wearing this striking pattern, which is regularly styled beautifully by Made in Chelsea’s Rosie Fortescue, seen below.

Way 1- Scarves
Not only will your mum be proud of you for being sensible and staying warm, a good scarf means you can put as little effort as you like into to the rest of your outfit for that 9am lecture! The example below is from Primark, showing you don’t need to blow the bank to rock the trend- and there are lots of great versions to be snapped up on eBay for under a fiver.

Way 2- The Two Piece
Summer’s must have co-ord trend has been transformed into a wearable autumn outfit by New Look with this tartan two piece. The pencil skirt and crop top is smart enough for a night out with the girls, but can also be separated and worn with jeans or a plain top for lectures. Pair it with boots, tights and a coat and you’re ready to go.

And I think everyone will agree this outfit is a little more wearable than Cher’s famous ensemble!

Way 3 – Nails
If you want something that lasts a few days try painting your nails with a tartan print. Just paint a base coat, then use a nail art brush or fine paint brush to paint on two vertical and a horizontal stripe in a contrasting colour. Get a friend to help if you haven’t got the steadiest of hands! If you’re in a rush just paint the thumb as a statement nail. Instant tartan fix sorted!

Way 4 – Hair
This cute bow from ASOS certainly has a back to school charm about it, and is a great alternative to the usual scrunchie or bobble on a bad hair day. You could try plaiting your hair for an extra preppy look or keep it simple by adding it to the top of a pony tail.
