Top Travel Spots for Harry Potter Fanatics

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Whilst the last Harry Potter movie was released 6 years ago now, the franchise’s popularity seems far from dwindling, with new attractions relating to the boy wizard’s story popping up regularly all over the world. Here are just a few of the top unmissable travel spots for any Potterhead:

Platform 1094, Singapore

Newly opened in December 2016, this café serves up a range of delectable delights inspired by Rowling’s books. Alcoholic offerings include the Goblet of Fire, Liquid Luck and Truth Venom cocktails, whilst sweet treats are also available such as the Wizard’s Cup sponge cake and Black Magic panna cotta. The décor is similarly magical, featuring long wooden tables and chandelier lighting.

Warner Bros Studio Tour, London

Delve directly into the heart of the movie magic as you explore sets, marvel at props and even try some Butterbeer at the iconic site where all 8 Potter films were made. You’ll be welcomed into the Great Hall before strolling through Diagon Alley, peeking in at the Weasley home and even Dumbledore’s office. Finish up your day in one of the most extensive merchandise stores to be found and take home your own piece of these beloved tales.

Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross Station

Located on the station’s concourse, this photo opportunity allows you to recreate Ron and Harry’s passage through platforms 9 and 10 towards the Hogwarts Express. A dedicated Harry Potter shop is also found nearby, sporting a range of goods including wands, time turners, horcruxes and house-coloured school jumpers.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Orlando

Spanning two of Universal’s Florida theme parks connected via a real-life functional Hogwarts Express, visitors can explore both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade in this fully immersive experience. With the chance to taste pumpkin juice, purchase a wand at Ollivander’s, take a trip down Knockturn Alley and dine at The Three Broomsticks, this is surely at the top of many wannabe-witch or wizard’s wish list.

Durham Cathedral

Step into the Harry Potter film sets with a visit up north, exploring locations used for both interior and exterior views of Hogwarts. You’ll recognise the cathedral’s surroundings from many iconic shots used in the first two films, including Harry spending time with Hedwig at Christmas time as well as his comedic entrance with Ron to McGonagall’s Transfiguration classroom.

I'm a third year English student at University of Nottingham and when I'm not working or writing, I'm probably watching a Disney movie or listening to one of their soundtracks! I'm a Campus Correspondent for HC Nottingham and generally write about food, travel, and the food I've experienced on my travels!
