Have you been living in a coursework-induced bubble? Bradley Deas informs you of all the goings-on in Nottingham that you may have missed out on!

Forest sack Davies after second stint

Mr Billy Davies, until recently of Nottingham Forest, has been sacked by the club after a run of seven games without a win, with the 5-0 loss to local rivals Derby County proving to be the final straw.

Perhaps Forest have a ‘thing’ about appointing managers who have had stints with rival clubs, as they are now looking towards former Notts County, Sheffield United and Leeds United manager Neil Warnock to steady the ship until the end of the season. The situation will be reviewed in the summer.

Unfortunately for Davies, it doesn’t look like they’ll be building a statue next to Brian Clough’s, after managing to drop out of the playoffs towards the end of his year long tenure.

Birth of the city’s new TV channel

A new TV station centred around Nottingham and all local goings-ons will go live on May 27th at 4pm. NOTTS TV is looking to serve as the heart of the community and it is being backed by four major organisations.

The station is hoping to be the TV equivalent of the Nottingham Post, giving a more localised agenda in comparison to the current East Midlands Today. The focus will be on 30 minute, daily news bulletins for the area; however, the station will also feature other interesting items such as the arts, sports, drama and even history.

The launch of such a show provides a host of opportunities for people within the local community, but perhaps more importantly, for the students of Nottingham who are interested in the media as a hobby or a career.

When being small isn’t a bad thing

Ever keep being told how small you are? Do everyday tasks such as reaching for food from your cupboards become an all-day adventure? Well now is your time to shine against your taller others. Contact Sainsburys in Basford and they will happily escort you to their new 15-inch-off-the-ground cash machine.

A spokesperson for the store stated that the ATM was installed at such a level due to the store being located on a hill and they have affirmed that there have been no complaints, although people are having to kneel, bend down or have surgery to make them smaller to be able to use machine.

The store are looking to move the cash machine to a better location, but if you’re passing by, make sure you take the time to take a glance at people struggling and straining to get a fiver out for a loaf of bread and some milk.

Human remains found on street in Nottingham

On Tuesday 25th March, a harrowing discovery was made on Maid Marian Way
As workmen were digging up the road for general improvements to the area they stumbled upon a collection of bones. Chicken bones, they were not. It can be confirmed that these remains are human. Who is this skilled and terrifying murderer taking his victims and burying them below the hard concrete? Is some form of magic at play here?

Thankfully, it has been confirmed after initial assessments that these bones are very old and have been described as “ancient”. Therefore the police have had no need to be involved any further so rest at ease fellow students, no need to worry about being buried under the pavement during a drunken escapade down the street.
