Top Five 2021 Spring/Summer Trend Forecast

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Even though we are in a pandemic, fashion week must go on! If you are like me and are overwhelmed by all the shows during fashion week, I have gathered the many styles from the different showcases to show you which trends might be in season this coming spring/summer.

Oversize Jackets

This clothing item has been a trend for a while now, but I think we will continue to see it this spring/summer. It’s a practical trend that plays on the silhouette. It is also an effortless and affordable trend to jump on. You can steal a blazer or a jean jacket for your boyfriend for the oversized look or if you don’t have a significant other like me, look for one in the men’s section of a vintage store. People can see this style in Balenciaga, The Row, Nina Ricci, Acne Studios, etc.

Low Rise

I’m sorry, but the low-rise pants are back. For all the millennials, this might be traumatizing. Yes, this is a throwback to the 2000s fashion, but Gen-Z brought this trend back. Shows such as Max Mara, Versace, Mugler, Miu Miu, etc., have shown this style.

Wide Leg

There is no surprise here since we brought back Y2K fashion. I think this is a trend that I look forward to in the coming months. I am honestly tired of seeing skinny pants. I believe that wide-leg pants can accentuate your body and make you look taller than you are. Acne Studios, Balmain, Nehera, etc., have made use of this trend in their shows.

Fitted Cardigans

Are cardigans popular now? Perhaps it’s because we are in a pandemic and are looking for both comfortable and chic clothes. This style can be seen in shows such as Missoni, Bottega Veneta, Dion Lee, Partow, etc.

Strappy Tops

I love this trend. I love it! Something about the multiple straps on a top or dress makes it look such high fashion without being too dramatic. Shows such as Ottolinger, Kim Shui, Jacquemus, Supriya Lele, etc., have displayed outfits with this lovely trend.

Besides the styles that I have listed above, another style that will continue to stay on trend is masks! An excellent tip to make masks look “cool” is to match your mask to your outfit. With that said, enjoy another season of virtual fashion week!
