If you are a student or 757 local, Old Dominion University’s on-campus Barry Art Museum is offering new exhibits in the spring of 2023.
- The first new exhibit “The Great Exhibition: Bébés at the Barry” will be on view now through July 30th, and features French dolls that were first designed in the last quarter of the nineteenth century to represent children. These dolls became internationally famous after being the first dolls of its kind, and transformed the way that dolls were created.
- The next exhibit, “PERSPECTIVES: Modern and Contemporary Glass from the Waitzer Collection”, features glass pieces from the Waitzer family of Norfolk that collected art for many years. This exhibition will be on view now through December 31th. According to the Barry Art Museum’s page on the exhibition, their gift to the museum almost doubles their current collection of glass and design objects.
The museum also offers self guided, virtual, and public tours that are open to the entire community. The Barry Art Museum is free and open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and weekends from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.. For more information, you can call the museum at 757-683-6200 or email them at barryartmuseum@odu.edu.
