We all follow people we admire on social media. We follow friends, family and the occasional YouTuber, Instagram-famous personality or fitness star. From these people, we can learn positive, rather than negative, lessons. I have a few “social media stars” I’ve learned key lessons from that I’d like to share with you!

Whitney Simmons

Whitney Simmons is a YouTuber with a following of 1.5 million on Instagram and 1 million subscribers on YouTube. Through her posts and videos, she shares her fitness journey and different workouts. These are great resources and tools, especially if you’re like me and need fitness motivation just to walk to the gym or if I need workout inspirations. Simmons has a mantra that she starts her morning with, saying “it’s a beautiful day to be alive.” Incorporating this into my own life, it helps me realize and remember how blessed I am to be alive still. Whether I am feeling unmotivated to go class or the gym or motivated to do a million things a day, it still reminds me to be thankful for even being able to open my eyes. Without Simmons, I wouldn’t feel comfortable within my own body and I wouldn’t feel comfortable with my fitness journey, as slow as it may be.

Keaton Milburn

With 148,000 followers on her Instagram, Arizona State University’s Keaton Milburn shares her love of Jesus, makeup and modeling through her social media posts. On her YouTube, Milburn posts vlogs and main channel videos. She inspires me with her bubbly personality. She has always seemed to be confident within herself and her beliefs. As an Alpha Phi sister at ASU, Milburn speaks frequently about the pressure to drink at parties. She speaks about her beliefs of remaining sober and she often talks about her religious beliefs of Christianity. To me, Milburn has always been an honest, confident young woman.

Zoella

British YouTuber Zoella, has accumulated 12 million followers over her career timespan. Talking all things beauty and lifestyle, Zoella speaks to her subscribers often about self-love. As a mental health advocate, she also speaks about her own experiences with mental health issues. She is very relatable and suitable for even younger viewers. It is honorable that Zoella can be an advocate while also simply discussing everyday things, like her favorite lipsticks of the month! She is also a published author and has her own beauty line. Over time, she certainly has made herself a household name while speaking on important, realistic topics.

Tobie Durham

After going viral on Vine for her inspirational, self-love posts, Tobie Durham became one of my favorites for always spreading positivity. On her Snapchat, she would post her storytimes or rants about life as a waitress or other things happening in her life. With 51.4K followers, Durham is still extremely honest and relatable. She is truly an inspirational light in my life and many, many others. She’s comedic, inspiring and all around a great, sweet person that loves every single person who follows her. She always tries to connect with all of us (I fangirled when she DMed me back, not going to lie) but is also just a real, genuine person.
