I’m just a girl, and I get bored easily. So, here are some fun little things I do when I’m bored that you can do when you find yourself bored with nothing to do!
Sit outside and act mysterious
One of my absolute favorite things to do (particularly when the weather is nice), is put on a cute outfit (or a slay outfit, if you will), throw on some headphones, and go for a walk or sit outside somewhere and pretend I’m a mysterious girl in a movie that everyone is in love with. Basically, I enjoy manifesting main character vibes. While I’m out there, I typically go for something a mysterious girl would do such as crocheting, writing, doing homework, or even simply just sitting staring off into the distance. Romanizing your life makes it so much more fun to live (just saying.)
Try on Everything in your Closet
The only downside to this is putting everything back when you are done, but it is so fun during. Afterwards, you get a chance to reorganize. Personally, I buy all of my clothes separately without much regard for how it will match other clothes I already own. This is where trying on all my clothes comes in handy. It makes outfit planning so much easier. Also, it can help me find clothes I forgot I even had, and find new ways to style them, especially because my sense of style changes nearly every week.
Listen to a podcast
I usually do this when I am driving and bored, but it works just as well if you are bored and just sitting around. I find that funny podcasts are the best ones to pass the time. My top recommendation is “Smartless” featuring Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes (it is my absolute favorite). You might look like a crazy person sitting there laughing all by yourself, but you have to do what you have to do.
Watch Video Essays on Youtube
Recently on TikTok I have been receiving countless videos on my fyp recommending various video essays, and I’ve got to say, I understand the hype. There is a video essay for anything you might be into; youtuber/celebrity drama, mysteries, true crime, TV shows and movies, and literally anything else you can think of. My personal favorites are any video essay about the rise and fall of entertainment pizza places such as Chuck E. Cheese and Showbiz Pizza. Video essays are typically pretty long, and they are often incredibly interesting, plus they make great background noise while you do other things.
Self-Care
Self-care is great because it can make you less bored and feel good about yourself. I am always down to go to Marshalls and drop a check on face masks, nail polish, you name it. I just love to practice self-care. My favorite day for doing self-care to defeat boredom is Sunday. We all know how real the Sunday Scaries can get, so relaxing at the end of the day by putting on your favorite show on, putting on a face mask, and rotting in bed for the rest of the night helps time pass and might help you forget all the stressful things in your life, at least for a little bit. Plus, your skin will be flawless.
Make an Instagram post
Whether you want to take new photos by having a photoshoot, or just post old ones in some sort of photo dump, posting on any social media really is one way I love to pass the time. Find the perfect photos where I am slaying the hardest, deciding what order to arrange them in, coming up with a caption, replying to comments, and everything else that comes with posting is a great way to defeat boredom, especially if you are obsessed with yourself and love looking at your own pictures like me.
Make Tiktoks
Even if you don’t actually post them and just save them to your drafts, TikToks are still super fun to make. Looking through sounds, watching other videos for inspiration, coming up with ideas, and everything else that goes with it provides an enjoyable way to pass time that I always turn to when I am really bored.
Do some homework
When I get really, really bored, I resort to doing homework. Honestly, this is the most beneficial thing I do when I am bored, because getting work done early makes my life so much easier, and no matter how much I don’t want to do it, getting it done makes me feel so accomplished. Plus, it takes a giant weight off of my shoulders and makes me more relaxed throughout the week, especially if I have a lot to do.
