Sometimes there is absolutely nothing better than having a break from all the girls night out. All the estrogen can get a little overwhelming, especially if you live with a lot of girls. Some of my favorite nights are just throwing on a sweatshirt and jeans and meeting my guy friends for a pitcher, or what we now call going for “bro beers.” There are, however, some rules to the art of really being one of the guys.
- Do NOT bring up any girl drama that is going on in your life. The only exception to this is unless they ask you about it, then the topic is fair game. Boys don’t always understand all the silly fights that girls get into and don’t want to be involved. This is your chance to escape from all of that so why even bring it up?
- Be prepared to watch a lot of sports. You may not know anything that is going on, like who the best quarterback is, but just take in the game. Usually the game is just in the background to the conversation anyway. Just don’t be that girl that asks to change the channel. Save the catching up on the newest TV shows for your girl time.
- Don’t be too weirded out when they bring up their latest hook up. Some boys will even come to you for girl advice. Most guys don’t always talk about their girl problems with each other, so they might be excited to have a girl to open up to.
- Do NOT hook up with any of these guys. This is not a safe dating pool. The second you hook up or date one of these guys the group dynamic completely changes. You are no longer “just friends” with the boy you hooked up with, and the rest of the guys will start to just see you as his girl. These situations never end well so its better just to avoid them.
Having a good group of guys to hang out with can be quite the savior in college. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good girls night out and bonding with all my girlfriends, but fitting a bro beer in there once a week really balances things.
