Single Girl in Athens – single girl movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

OK so it happened, you came back to winter quarter single. The season that has always been dubbed “wifey” season because most people try to find someone to spoon with during these cold days. But, like Ross from Friends once said, “It’s winter, there are fewer people on the street,” and he’s right. Who finds love while we are just trying to make it across campus without freezing.

So, while you are cuddled up on the couch with your real boyfriend and a nice tall glass of wine, here are a list of movies that are perfect for single girls on a night when its too cold to trudge to Court Street.

1. “He’s Just Not That Into You” – OK, I know this one might sound like it could sting a little, but Gigi’s awkwardness with men could actually make you feel better about yourself. Also, I feel like this movie has a lot of lessons we women always need reminded of. So pay attention ladies, you may learn something.

2. “Now and Then” – This movie is about watching four best friends grow up and all the struggles they go through. It will remind you of how important your friendships are, and you’ll end the movie forgetting all about any boy you think you need.

3. “Sex and The City” 1 and 2 – These movies are all about watching women who care more about their best friends than any man they may date and their struggles with love that we can all relate to. The movies may not be as good as the series, but who really cares when we all dream about being Carrie Bradshaw.

4. “The Divine Secrets of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood” – This movie is about a daughter and mother relationship and the relationship the mother has with her friends. With no love story to focus on, it’s always a good choice.

5. “Clueless” – The hilarity of watching these highschoolers in Beverly Hills will have you forgetting the fact that you are single. And, as most of the movie is about how the girls become strong women, you will feel refreshed in your singleness.

Movies really are the best distraction from reality. So while your roommate is staying over at her boyfriend’s house, pop one of these in and you’ll forget you even care about being single.
