As much as I love summer, something about the temperatures falling with the leaves brings a smile to my face and a welcome chill to my hands. With September upon us, it’s time to bring out some of my personal favorite fall songs.Â
“Oh Klahoma”- Jack Stauber
Conjuring up images of Fall 2020’s ghost photoshoot trend, this funky little song has now become permanently associated with the season and the playful spookiness surrounding it.Â
“Meet Me in the Woods”- Lord Huron
Frankly, any Lord Huron song could easily fit into a fall playlist. But, I feel that this soft folk rock tune fits the season the best, with its quiet, almost absent vocals, driving percussion, and inability to be overplayed, it’s become an autumn staple for me.Â
“We’re Going to be Friends”- The White Stripes
Briefly trending on Tiktok last year, this chill song has lyrics about making new friends as a child as the school year goes on, set against a quiet, autumnal backdrop.Â
“Pumpkin”- The Regrettes
While not necessarily showing imagery of fall itself, it’s easy to see how it can be associated with the season. A fun little love song, it’s perfect for any fall playlist.Â
“Woodland”- The Paper Kites
This song feels like a childhood fall. Talking about imaginary beasts and playing in autumn sunlight and bringing about images of sunny forests and scraped knees, it’s a great song for an innocent day of fall fun.Â
“Almost (Sweet Music)”- HozierÂ
Like Lord Huron, almost any Hozier song could fit into a fall playlist. However, I feel that this song fits exceedingly well. With peaceful guitar juxtaposed with soaring vocals, it’s perfect for a morning stroll on an autumn day.Â
“Boys will be Bugs”- Cavetown
A quirky song about the highs and lows of growing up, this bedroom pop tune also conjures up images of autumn with references to spotted sweaters and colder weather.
“Summer’s Almost Gone” – The Doors
Now let’s take a more ominous sounding turn, both lyrically and instrumentally. With it’s combination of low crooning vocals and a haunting guitar, this song is perfect for spooky foggy days in October, reminding us of the coming of winter.Â
“America” – Simon and Garfunkel
The oldest song out of the ten I’ve recommended, this 1968 folk tune from Simon and Garfunkel conjures up images of a rainy and chilly Americana, making it perfect for just about any relaxing playlist or fall playlist.
“The Reckoning” – Dom Fera
An unknown gem that I’ve had the pleasure of hearing from a trailer, this short and sweet song reminds us of the changes we’ve all collectively experienced as we’ve moved to college as well as remind us of the incoming fall weather.Â
While the changing of seasons can be a cause for concern for the incoming winter, it can also be a great time to admire the beauty of the time, especially here in Athens. In my personal opinion, there’s no greater way to do that than with a great fall playlist.Â
