Lately there has been a surge of new iPhone apps. Facebook and Twitter will always be staples, but are these new apps really worth downloading? Some of them are, depending on what sort of cheap entertainment you’re into. And by cheap I mean free! All of these apps are free on the iTunes app store.

Tinder – The new way to online date for college students. Here’s how it works. You log in with your Facebook account and it takes four pictures from your profile, plus your name and a few other details about yourself. Then you get to go through and either reject or like people based off of their pictures and info. Tinder allows you to set up to a 100 mile radius for possible matches. The beauty of it is you never know when you get rejected, and if you like somebody they only know if they like you too! Once you get a “match”, as it’s called on tinder, you can message the person and go from there! Even if you’re not looking for someone special it really is just great entertainment.

Snap Chat – By now I’m sure most people know what Snap Chat is. But in case you don’t, it is an app where you can take selfies and send them to your friends. How is it different than just texting it to them? You pick how long they get to view the photo. It can be as short or as long as you want up to 10 seconds. The app doesn’t allow screen shots to be taken of pictures and it will notify you if they attempt it. It’s a giant rumor that Snap Chat was invented for sexually based pictures, but it’s commonly used for the most unattractive selfies imaginable that only your best friend will still love you for. I think, somewhere out there the inventor of Snap Chat probably has a collection of all the pictures ever sent on the app and is secretly getting a good kick out of them.

Whisper – Consider yourself warned, this app can be very addicting! Whisper is an anonymous app where you can post whatever you’re thinking. Everybody’s secrets become public on here, but nobody knows who posted them! Whisper suggests a username when you begin posting or you can make up your own. You can view other whispers by most popular, recent, and nearby. The nearby option shows whispers that have been posted in your area. It will tell you how close they are to you by miles, that way it is still completely anonymous! Also, there is an option to “heart” whispers. This means it is a whisper you agree with. You can see others who feel the same way as you and it saves all of them.
