Lately it seems that Greek life is the center of many controversies. College life is portrayed by Television and the media as a rowdy, crowd of young people drinking, having sex, and using drugs. Greek Life has become the focus of many of these stereotypes.
The truth is, most members of the Greek community value education, philanthropy, and valuable friendships above all else in their college experience. Greeks, regardless of chapter, feel a connection and pride in the community as a whole.
This is why GoGreekNow is an invaluable resource. It was founded in 2014 as a social media catch-all for the Greek community. Members from any chapter at any university can join and post pictures, read articles, and interact with each other as a means of support and healthy socialization of Greeks.
Nick Scott and Mark Hagen were Sigma Chis at Iowa State University and founded GoGreekNow with the idea of expanding the Greek community on the digital platform and giving Greeks access to the information they care about. Members of GoGreekNow can see pictures and events from their own university as well as those across the country. The idea is to allow Greeks to freely share their chapter successes and lifestyle without criticism or negativity. With the smartphone app, it’s easy to see a stream of videos, pictures, and information about any chapter at any university.
Oklahoma State GoGreekNow campus representative, Carlie Garcia, is proud to be a part of an organization that values the growth of the Greek community, and the things they find important and useful.
“[My bosses] are super cool and willing to let each rep do what fits their campus best,” said Garcia. “It’s nice not having to fit any specific mold but rather offer new ideas and explore all the different options”.
GoGreekNow will be having a drawing for gift cards to either Southern Tide or Vineyard Vines, as well as freebies to all the chapters soon. To register for the drawing Greeks need to create a GoGreekNow account using their okstate email and will automatically be submitted. Winners will be drawn at random.
