OSU has just scored again you the first things you hear are the roaring cheer of the crowd, the Cowboy Marching band playing the fight song and those three famous words, “Here comes Bullet.”
The tradition of Bullet and the Spirit Rider began in 1984 and has embodied the OSU spirit and what it means to be a Cowboy ever since. This years Spirit Rider, senior Katy Krshka, said the tradition creates a fun aspect at the games.
“It adds a different aspect than a lot of other schools can say,” Krshka said.
Krshka grew up riding horses in Yukon, and after riding with the equestrian team at OSU chose to try out to be the Spirit Rider in the spring. She submitted an application, rode and had a personal interview before being chosen out of 15 other candidates.
“I feel so honored to be able to have that position,” Krshka said.
The first game for Krshka was nerve-wracking. She said she joked with friends that her main goal was to stay on.
“The first time you kind of go out there blindly,” Krshka said. “You don’t only have nerves but he does too.”
Going into the third home game, Krshka said she is much more prepared to ride out of the tunnel after each touchdown.
“You still have the adrenaline every time,” Krshka said. “It’s just an awesome experience.”
